The rector paid tribute to the work
done ley all Members during the past
year, The retiring warden, Mr, R.
Procter, thanked everyone for co-op-
eration during his term of office, It
was decided to increase insurance on
the church. The rector closed the
meeting with prayer and lunch was
served by the ladies.

Mr. and Mrs. George Cook and fam-
ily.

Mr. Leslie Bolt is ill with mumps.
John Bruce and Gordon Campbell,
and Nancy Varicamp, are ill at their
homes with mumps.
Brussels Boy
Breaks Leg
Dale MeTaggart, younger son of Mr
and Mrs. Adrian McTaggart, of Brus-
sels, had his right leg broken while
tobogganing last week.
The accident occurred when the to-
boggan hit a drop causing the boy to
bounce high off it and come back
down landing on, his leg with such
force that it was broken a few inches
above the •ankle,
Other boys who were there when
the accident occurred took him to the
home of a play mate on the toboggan
where a doctor was summoned. He
was later removed to Listowel Hospi-
tal but-was allowed to go home after
a cast had been applied.—Brussels

Average wage of men and women
in Canadian factories at Sept. 1,
1952, was $1.30 an hour; it was $1.22
a year earlier and $1,06 in 1950.

Athletic Association Elects
Sam Pletch, President in '53
Belgrave Athletic Association held
their Minna]. Meeting in the Commun-
ity centre, Prichay evening January
9th, The new officers are as follows:
president, Sam Pletch; first vice pre-
sident, Gordon Nethery; second vice-
president, Robert H. Coultes; secre-
tary, Ross Robinson; treasurer, Ross
Anderson; auditors, Cliff Walsh and
Herman Nethery.
Knox WALK
The January meeting of Knox Pres-
byterian W.M.S, was held in the
chureh and was opened with prayer
by the president, Mrs, J. C. McBurney,
Mrs. Ken Scott read a Scripture pas-
sage from Isaiah and Mrs. Art Scott
led in prayer.
A. summary of the past year's activi-
ties was given by the secretary, Mrs,
Bruce, and Mrs. Ken Scott gave the
complete financial report for .1952.
During the business period, the presi-
dent announced that the Huron Pres-
byterial annual meeting will be held
in Clinton on January 15th, with mor-
ning and afternoon sessions. Weather
and roads permitting, this auxiliary
will be represented at the annual
meeting,
Visits to the sick and shut-in were
reported and the roll call taken, Mrs.
Ken Scott, theireasurer, received the
offering. Mrs. Athol Bruce led in the
prayer from the Glad Tidings. Mrs.
Dunbar read letters from the Rev. and
Mrs. Agar and from John Elder, tell-
ing of the work in Central India and
in British Guiana. Mrs. Anderson re-
viewed important items from the Jan-
uary .„Glad Tidings and Mrs. McBur-
ney closed the meeting with prayer.
The study book, "Africa—Contrasts
and Conflicts", will be introduced at
the next meeting and will be used
throughout the year. Knox W.M.S. is
looking forward to an interesting and
successful year.
Choir Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the choir of
Knox United Church, Belgrave, was
held on Friday evening, January 9th,
in the church basement. Donna And-
erson was nominated to be secretary
for the evening. Secretary and treas
urer reports were read from the pre-
vious meeting.
The slate of officers for the year
1953 were drawn up as follows: pre-
sident, Mrs. J. C. Procter; secretary-
treasurer, Donna Anderson; music
committee, Mrs. George Johnston and
Mrs. George Michie; gown committee,
Mrs. Cliff Logan, Amy Smith and
George Johnston; social committee,
Mrs. C. D. Cox, Lorraine Hanna, Earl
Anderson, Billy Coultes.
Moved by Earl Anderson, Seeeeded
by George Johnston that they •sub-
scribe for a year's subscription to the
"Volunteer choir." The serving of
lunch closed the meeting.

PartY in the Beigrave Community
Centre, Wednesday evening, January
7th. High prizes were won by Mrs,
J, lee Coultes and Abner Nethery, eon
solation prizes went to Alvin Higgins
and. Mrs. James R. Coultee,
The January meeting of the Trinity
Church Guild was held at the home
of Mrs. L. Vannan with the president,
Mrs, Wm, Brydgee, in charge.
The meeting was opened with the
hymn "The Year is Gone Beyond Re-
call." All joined In the "General Con-
fession" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Mrs. Brydges read the Scripture. Mrs.
Jack VanCamp acted as secretary and
read the minutes of the last meeting,
The financial report read by Mrs.
John McGill showed a substantial bal-
ance,
A bazaar was planned and it was
decided to continue with the holiday
bells as a means of raising funds, A
quilting was to be held at the home
of Mrs. A. Higgins on Wednesday,
January 14th.
The following readings were enjoyed
by those present, "Just For a Day,"
by Mrs. Vannan; "A. Small Commun-
ity" by Mrs, Higgins and "Something
for Nothing," by Mrs. McGill. Dues
were paid and the meeting closed with
the singing of the grace. A very tasty
lunch was served by Mrs. Vannan and
Mrs. Perdue.
Annual Meeting
Trinity Anglican Church held it's
annual meeting on Tuesday evening
in the recreation room with, the rector,
Rev. W. E. Bramwell, presiding and
opening the meeting with prayer, The
treasurer's report, given by Lawrence
Vannan, showed a balance and also
those given by the Ladies' Guild and
A. Y. P. A. Greetings were read from
a former rector, Rev. J. A. Roberts
and Mrs, Roberts, B. C., also from
the Richard's family of Sheffield, Eng-
land.
The officers for the coming year
are: Rector's Warden, Mr. E. Neth-
ery; People's Warden, Mr. Clare Van-
Camp; Lay Delegate, Mr, H. Nethery;
alternate, Mr. L. Vannan; auditors,
Mr, A. McBurney and Mr. A, Mont-
gomery; vestry clerk, Mrs. W. Bry-
dges; sec.-treas., Mr, L. Vannan; sel-

Census Lists Religious
Groups in County
The ninth census of Canada includ-
ed a breakdown of the pePulation into
religious groups, and the figures
were released be the Dominion Bur-
eau of Statistics last week.
Here in Huron County, with a total
population of 47,280, the largest
church membership is shown by the
United Church of Canada with a total
of 24,053 members and adherents.
Next in order of size are the Presby-
terians with 7,918, followed by the
Church of England with 6,303, The
Roman Catholics total 5,617, Luther-
an, 1,726, Evangelical Church ,1,045;
Baptists, 800, Mennonite, 377, Pente-
costal, 254, Salvation Army, 109.
Other groups are Adventist 49,
Christian Science 4$, Mormon 42,
Greek Orthodox 339, Jewish 36, Tile-
ranian (Greek Catholic) 35; Church
of Christ, Disciples, 12, Confucian and
Buddhist 2.
Members of other religious groups
total 815.
