I, will be held at the home of Mrs. Norman Wade on Tuesday afternoon, January 13th., at 2,30 p.m, Roll call, A use for salt, soda and lemon other than cooking. 7b Bank Manager Transferred to Simcoe Mr, C, D, Walmsley, manager of the Gorrie Branch of the Dominion Bank for the past five years, has been transferred to Simcoe, where the Dominion Bank is opening a new branch, He expects to be leaving next week, Mrs. Walmsley, Barbara arid Ronnie, will remain here for a time, Mr. Beattie of the staff of the Dom- inion Bank, Wingham, will succeed Mr, Walmsley. Mr. and Mrs, Walmsley have taken an active part in community affairs and will be missed in the village, Mr, Walmsley is a past president of the Community Club and of the Lions Club and is an active member of the United Church. Dr. Geo, Fowler The late Dr, Geo, Fowler, of Tees- water, who died at his home there last week, was widely known in this dis- trict. He was a prominent Mason and his funeral was attended by many of that order. He also practised dentist- ry here paying a twice a month visit to Gorrie for many years, coming from Teeswater by C.P.R. At that time there were four trains a day on this line. United Church news, Mission Band The Mission Band met for their an- nual meeting in the church hall on Friday afternoon, with 19 members present. Officers for next year are: President, Joyce Ford; vice-presi- dent, Lenore Feigel; secretary, Edith Scott; treasurer, Alex Strong; peace convener, Gwen Hyndman; temper- ance convener, Paul Galbraith; gam- es, Don Whitfield and Maureen Buch- anan; pianist, Marion Robinson; as- sistant pianist, Faye Edgar. The sum of $88.86 was realized from the sale of cards, candy and mite boxes. Rev. Harry and Mrs. Jennings, of Lucknow, spent New Year's with Mrs. Chas. Lawrence. Mrs. Earl Harrison, Michael and Ralph, of Blyth, spent the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Fulton and Richard, of Harriston, Mr. Earl Harrison, Blyth, spent New Year's day at the same home. Little Frances Edgar, of Listowel, was holidaying with her grandpar- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Edgar, last week. Hockey games start this week with Gorrie playing in Brussels on Monday night. The Gorrie Hockey team has been practicing at the Wingham Arena. Owing to mild weather, the ice here was unfit, but with colder wea- ther there has been skating in Gorrie for a few nights. A piano recital was held by the pup- ils of Mrs, 0. B. Moffat at her home on December 31st. Solos and duets were played by the pupils also clari- net solos by Dick McCutcheon, Those taking part included: Karen Green- away, Margaret McCutcheon, Susan Sellars, Elizabeth McKinney, Tommy McCutcheon, Gavel Ruttan, Carol Rob- ertson, Betty Ann Ruttan, Marie John- ston, Dick McCutcheon, Kathleen Mc- Cutcheon, Kay Johnston, Susan Yed. Y.P.U. Instals Officers The Y.P,U. met in the United Church School room on Sunday even- ing, January 4th, The Installation of officers took place: president, Ken- neth Johnston; vice-pres., Bob Fraser, sec.-treas, Cavell Ruttan; pianist, Eleanor Smith; conveners—Faith and ardship and Community service, Lloyd Wheeler; Mission and World Out- reach, Joyce Hoffman; Recreation and Social Culture, Verna Wheeler and Don McLean. The first meeting of the Mission Band for the new year was held in the school room of the United Church, Mrs. W. J. Johnston and Miss Mar- garet Curtis were in charge, A new year's greeting was read by the pre- ident and the purpose of the Mission Band was explained. The roll call was Mr, and Mrs. C. D. Walmsley and Ronnie, spent a day last week in Sim- coe. Mr. and Mrs, Jos. McKnight and Janey, of Beamsville, were New Year's guests of Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Brown. Mrs. W. H. Marshall left last week to spend the winter months with her son, Mr. Alex Marshall and Mrs. Mar- shall, in Stratford, Mrs. Vera Gregg and George, re- turned last week to Toronto after spending the Christmas holidays with relatives here. Miss Janet Murray is a patient in the Wingham General Hospital, Mr. M. D. Irwin of Palmerston, vis- ited with friends in the community on Sunday. Mr. E. H. Strong was in London last Tuesday, attending a meeting of the Ontario Conservation and Refor- estation Association, Zone 2. They in- spected the Fanshawe Dam and lun- cheon was in the Hotel London pre- vious to the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Graham and baby daughter, of Toronto, visited with relatives here on Saturday after- noon. Mr. and Mrs. Miles and Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Dane of Toronto, were guests of 144: and Mrs. Norman Wade over the New Year holiday. Coining Events The January meeting of the Wom- an's Missionary Society will be post- poned until next week, owing to the church annual meeting being held on Friday evening of this week, 7* Y.P.U.
