With the arrest on Saturday of two
Southampton men and the recovery of
blankets and rubber boots identified
its having been stolen from summer
cotters, local and district police he-
beve "TheY have some of the culprits
responsible for breaking into district
beach cottages,
Following the arrest of the two
men, a number of blankets recovered
were identified as having been taken
from a cottage near Port Elgin, while
the owner of the rubber boots states
they were taken frOrn his cottage near
Lions Head.
Chief Deycil said that so far, no
articles missing from local cottages
have been recovered, but that two
more suspects are wanted by police
and that, there could be further devel-
opments in the case.—Southampton

On Friday night at the 'community
hall, Wroxeter, Mr. and Mrs. John A.
Blythe (nee Edith Hastie), who were
recently married, were honored at a
shower when they were presented with
a lot of lovely gifts.
Farmers' Night
Howick, Lions Club held their an-
nual farmers' night in the Gorrie
community hall, Thursday, when the
ladies of United Church Group 4
served a turkey dinner. Bob Carbert,
of C.K.N.X., Wingham, and Harold
Meir, of Seaforth, were guest speak-
ers.
Anglican Brotherhood Meets
The Brotherhood of Anglican Lay-
men met in St. James' Church, Wrox-
eter, for the annual meeting on Tues-
day night. The following officers were
elected for the coming year: President
Jas. Foster; 1st. vice pres., Wes. Pau-
lin; 2nd. vice pres., Clifford Dodds;
seer-treas., E. H. Strong,
LO.B.A. Dinner and Bazaar
Proceeds of the bazaar and hot din-
ner sponsored by the members of the
I.O.E.A. on Saturday amounted to $200.
Home baking especially brought a
ready sale and a good number turned
out to enjoy the dinner. Winners in
a draw on two cakes were W. Jacklin,
Christmas cake and Mrs, Dick Carson,
angel cake.
Huron County Road Banquet
On Tuesday night, November 25th,
Huron County road employees and
their wives, enjoyed a turkey supper
in the Gorrie community hall, Group 1
of the United Church W.A. catered. A
program and dance followed with the
Fordwich orchestra supplying the mu-
sic for dancing.
Joins Navy
Johnston Parrish has enlisted with
the Royal Canadian Navy and left on
Monday morning for London. Later
he will be posted to Cornwallis, N.S.
W.A.
The November meeting of the W.A.
of the United Church was held at the
home of Mrs. Lottie Thornton with 10
members and two visitors present.
Group 3 was in charge of devotions.
Hymn 388 was sung, Psalm 121 was
read by Mrs. Murray Edgar, followed
by prayer by Mrs. Russel Adams. A
very interesting paper entitled, "The
Power of Influence", was read by Mrs.
Cliff Pyke. Hymn 308 was then sung,
after which a reading, "Acts of Omis-
sion" was given by Mrs. Irving Toner,
Hymn 148 was sung and the devotion-
al part of the meeting was closed by
repeating the Lord's prayer in unison.
Mrs. Allan Hyndmann presided over
the business part of the meeting and
Mrs. Buchanan, Mrs. Toner and the
hostess served lunch.
Young People's Union
United Church Y,P,U. met on Fri-
day for a social evening in the church
ball. Contests and a geography match
were enjoyed, followed by a delicious
lunch, Election of officers will be held
at the next meeting, on November 29th
in the church hall, at 8 p.m.
Caller for Group
David Neilson was "caller" for the
Newry group in the square dance
competition at the Royal Winter Fair.
The group won fifth place in the finals
on Saturday night, at the close of the
Fair.
Condition Favorable
The condition of Mr. Harry Fergu-
son is reported as favorable following
an operation on Sunday morning in
the Wingham General Hospital to re-
move fluid from his lung, Mr. Fergu-
son was hurt when he fell two weeks
ago, breaking two ribs and injuring
his lung.
Nomination for Howick Township
council will be held in the community
hall on Friday afternoon, November
28th.

Mrs. Carl Gregg has gone to To-
ronto to spend the winter months.
Ladies of the Gorrie Presbyterian
Church were entertained at the Pres-
byterian manse, Molesworth, by Rev.
J. R, and Mrs. Boggs at their Novem-

Mich., visited with Mrs. James Arm-
