younger days. Hold Thankoffering She was predeceased by two bro-
thers and eight sisters, Left to mourn
her passing are: her son, John Alex-
ander Gear, of Kitchener; two grand-
children, and one sister, Mrs. Eliza-
beth Koepfgen, in her 97th year, of
Cass City, Michigan.
Services were held at Currie's Fun-
eral Home, on Thursday, November
13th,, at 2 o'clock with Rev, Fulton,
pastor of Belgrave Presbyterian
Church, officiating, Interment was in
Brandon cemtery, Belgrave, The pall-
bearers were Graeme Anderson, Ross
Anderson, Bruce Scott, Ivan Wight-
man, Charles Smith and Harvey Mc-
Dowell.
The annual Thankoffering, meeting
of the Baptist Young Women's Mis-
sion Circle was held in the church
auditorium last Thursday night.
To open the program which was in
charge of the president, Mrs, Brace
MacLean, everyone sang "Jesus shall
Reign," This wds followed by prayer,
"Far, Far away in Heathen Darkness
Dwelling" was sung and Miss Mildred
Jones read the fifteenth chapter .of
Romans, after which there was a
season of prayer,
Mrs, Glenn Scheifele and Mrs, Frank
Collar rendered the duet "Saviour,
Precious Saviour" and Mrs, Bob Kerr
played a medley of gpspel songs,
which was much enjoyed by all.
After the singing of the hymn,
"Speed Away," the president introduc-
ed the speaker of the evening, who
was the church's own missionary,
Miss Laura Collar, The account given
of her work in Northern Nigeria, was
most interesting and challenging and
left the listeers yearning to hear more,
Miss Collar spent her time among
two different tribes and has mastered
I two languages, that of the Hausa tribe
and the Nupe.
The offering of the evening went
toward her passage money for her
return tQ Africa. Mrs. Reg, Collar sang
an appropriate solo" Over There," and
the meeting was dismissed with pray-
er by the pastor, Rev. J. L, Coyle.

Mrs. Thomas Gear
Was Former Teacher
Following a lengthy illness in the
Wingham General Hospital, Alexia
Anne Morton, widow of the late Thos,
Albert Gear, passed away on Tues-
day, November 11th„ in her 83rd. year.
Born in East Wawanosh, she was
the youngest daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Alexander Morton, who had
moved to this district as one of the
early settlers, prior to her birth, Hav-
ing resided in this neighbourhood all
her life and taught school in her
younger days in East and West Wa-
wanosh, she was widely known. Her
many friends knew her as a lover of
flowers. She was a member of Knox
Presbyterian Church, Belgrave, where
read at the regular meeting of High
School Board last week.
Mr. Montgomery extended his con-
gratulations to the contestants, from
the High Schools in Huron County
plowing matches on the excellent
showing they made. "We have heard
at good deal of favorable comment
since these matches were held, about
the excellent work accomplished by
the student plowmen representing
your school," "I might also add that
your entries in these matches not only
helped to create further interest in
this type of work in our county but
also gives incentive to young people
to learn the rudiments of good plow-
ing and `of good farming practices,"
stated Mr,• Montgomery,
He Went on to thank both the school
staff and the board members for their
excellent 'co-operation and particularly
congratulated Mr. Jackson, the agri••
cultural teacher.
At the same meeting, the board ap-
proved an application for the use of a
classroom at the High School on Wed-
nesday nights for a public speaking
club,
