of both wars were being remembered,
and not merely those of the first. Nov-
ember 11th would always belong to
one war, as It were; the new day
would mean a renewed act of remem-
brance for the first, and a fresh re-
membrance for the second, In addition
this day would Invest the act with a
permanent religious quality that has
never been completely lacking to it
throughout the years. Equally im-
portant is the fact that it was found
difficult in the past to organize a
silence on what was a wotking day.
With the battle for production still to
be waged, the loss of a working day
was not regarded as a fitting mem-
orial to the slain. The official national
observance at which the Sovereign
lays the wreath is now on the Sun-
day preceeding the 11th., and the sil-
ence is observed over the whole nat-
ion at 11 a.m. The silence is thus ob-
served by many people during their
morning worship. Church services us-
ually start 15 minutes earlier for this
purpose, This leaves the afternoon for
community and interdenominational
ceremonies.
Local communities here would not
go wrong if they adopted this prac-
tice, even if the national ceremony is
still held on the eleventh of November.
This would seem to be the way things
are tending and Canada may fall into
line with Britain in this respect later.
Of course it would be impossible to
synchronize the silence all over this
country, but it would be a happy
thought that Britain and the Com-
monwealth were united together on
the same day in official remembrance

FOOD TIPS FOR
AUTUMN APPETITES
In these days of high prices and
Autumn-keen appetites, no Ontario
woman can afford to overlook a new
booklet published by the Nutrition
Section of the Women's Institute
Branch and Home Economics service
of the Ontario Department of Agri-
culture.
Under the heading of "Your Money's
Worth in Food" the authors have
compiled an all-embracing bulletin
which deals extensively with all phas-
es of food and food preparation.
In addition to timely tips on how
to get your money's worth in food;
the bulletin includes a food guide for
health in addition to devoting consid-
erable attention to meal planning on
the basis of nourishment, economy
and appetite appeal. There ,are tips
in abundance on how to prepare in-
expensive, health-giving meals, on a
modest budget.
Of particular interest to the home-
maker is a section of the bulletin
devoted to the comparison of "Extra-
vagant Foods" and "Economical
Foods." Stress is laid on. those foods

Dear Sir:
With regard to the observance of
Remembrance, it might be wise for
Canada to adopt the practice that
Britain has found most appropriate,
November 11th had great significance
as Armistice Day; but it was felt after
the second struggle that if the Sun-
day before the eleventh of November
were kept as Remembrance Day this
would be an indication that the dead
