He always took a deep interest in our community, so we feel we have lost a valuable asset. However, we feel sure that his replacement will be made with a man of similar calibre." A bank man, by the very nature of his work, becomes part of the life around him. During his training in various branches, and as he takes on growing responsibilities, he learns more and more .about people and how his bank can help them. And he brings to his community his personal readiness to serve in any way he can. 1.11111MILL, LEE of CANADA HEAD OFFICE . WATERLOO, ONIARIO PaotEct teat:et, 7..94,4aee EST. 1869 r roe r.aarc nee. Economical "")' - refreshment ularity of Caesar and with Anthony who roused the populace te frenzy against the murderers. He recruited and led an array that finally scatter- ed the rebel forces and drove Brutus and Cassius to suicide, It appears there was no real ill., feeling on the part of Anthony to- ward the assassins, at least after they Were dead, for Plutarch tells us that "When Anthony found the body of Brutus, he ordered it covered with the richest robe. The ashes of Brutus he sent to his mother Servilia." That was a typical act of a triumphant Roman politician to snake friends of his former opponents, Where both contestants survived the battle be- tween their military forces, they sometimes shook hands and agreed to bury the hatchet and share the spoils of power, with the proviso that each would kill off certain members of his party who might prove troubleseme under the new regime, Those ancient politicians were ruthlessly astute. "We don't do that sort of thing in these days of democratic government, Our election contests are not fought with awards or bullets, but with ver- bal artillery and ballots. The party in power may use the smoke-screen to cover up its misdoings, and the oppos- ition may resort to poisonous "gas," while both sides will indulge in open bribery by out-poisoning each other in measures of social welfare. But this is all part of the political "game," and although it tends to increase the cost of government and most other things, there is no bloodshed and the defeated politicians survive the battle with little or no damage, except, per- haps, to their reputations. "Every country has its own consti- tution; ours is absolution moderated by assassination." That saying was at- tributed by George Herbert to "an intelligent Russian" a hundred years ago, and the saying proved to be prophetic with the assassination of the constitution, but it is still absolut- ism, and assassination is still the modifier, though it is now used sec- retly by the government itself under the moderated title of "liquidation," the idea being to nip in the bud any plot to liquidate the Czar's successor, who, for extra safety purposes, lives a secluded life within the strong fortress of the Kremlin. If Julius Caesar had been astute enough to have had Brutus and Cassius liquidat- ed he might have died of old age, and thus deprived Shakespeare of material for one of his greatest trag- edies, which he lifted from Plutarch. Premier Stalin has probably profited by a close study of the lives and deaths of those ancient absolutists and improved on their preventive methods against assassination. Or he may have been influenced by the grave remark of Tweedledee: "You know, it's one of the most serious things that can possibly happen to one in battle—to get one's head cut off." A. H. Produced as an experinlent, "Mr. Texas" has amazed religions leaders and motion picture authorities alike during its first year pf showings. At the film's preview in Hollywood Bowl on October 1„ 3,051, a record throng of 25,000 persons jammed into the huge ampitheatre for the largest at- tendance any motion picture has ever had in this country, During the past year of showings an estimated 3,000,- 000 persons have seen the film. From this number of viewers, some 85,000 have made decisions to accept the Christian way of life,• according to records on file in the Graham film organization's Washington, D. C., of- flee. Both figures indicate new highs in evangelistic circles, 3,000,900 is the largest number ever to see a Gospel film in one year, and the 85,000 decisions represent the largest single evangelistic effort during recent years. The story revolves around the Billy Graham Crusade in Will Rogers Col- iseum in Fort Worth, Texas, one year ago, To produce the film, an entire motion picture company moved from Hollywood to Texas and made all of the Texas scenes in the vicinity of Fort Worth, The rodeo scenes, some of the most beautiful color photo- graphy being seen today, were made at Hardin Simmons University, and feature the world champion Mayo Rodeo Riders, together with the fam- ous Hardin Simmons Cowboy Band. Original music for the picture was composed by Cindy Walker, called the "true queen of Western song writ- ers," and Redd Harper, Several of the songs from "Mr. Texas" have appear- ed recently on records, and complete albums are available. In several cities where the film has been shown it has been necessary to schedule two and three showings per night, and often return engagenients have been de- mantled.
