Mr. and Mrs. Everett Sparling of
Bracebridge, were week-end visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ferguson,
who accompanied them to McIntosh
church for the Sunday morning ser-
vice when Douglas Robert, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robt, Ferguson, was baptiz-
ed.

DRIVE-IN THEATRE
Stating it is their intention to erect
a drive-in theatre on the site, George
Bowra and D. M. Graham have offer-
ed Goderich $1,000 for the old rifle
range property, The town council, at
its meeting last Friday, referred the
matter to the committee of the whole.
The men asked for a three months'
option on the property which is locat-
ed on the waterfront on the southern
limits of the town.—Goderich Signal-

ed the Auxiliary with photas of the
Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The Auxiliary will send US to West-
minster Hospital and will collect books
for the men in Korea. Lunch was serv-

The third meeting of the C,G,I.T.
was held at the home of Marie Hastie
on October 23rd, in the form of a work
Meeting. Hymrs No, 380 was sung, fol-
lowed by the purpose. It was decided
that the next meeting would be a Hal-
lowe'en social held at the church on
October 20th, Marlene Felgel read a
story called, "David's Acceptable Sac-
rifice," Hymn 376 was sung and the
collection taken up. There were 12 in
attendance. After the pot holders were
started the meeting closed with taps.
WAILS, Hold Thankoffering Service
The Woman's Missionary Society, of
the United Church, held its Thank-
offering service in the Sunday school
room on Sunday evening. Rev. J. W. V.
Buchanan opened with hymns, prayer
and Scripture reading. Members of the
Fordwich United Church W.M.S. then
presented a patriotic and religious
pageant, depleting Canada .and her
varied nationalities M native .costume,
The choice was to be made between
selfish interests and Christianity, The'
work of the Cnited. Church
among Indians, Slays, Japanese and
other peoples was told, leading,Cana,
da to, ehooSe to become a Christian
nation, The drama was enjoyed by all
present.
Reception
Rev, W. J. V, and Mrs. Buchanan
held "Open House" at the United
Church parsonage on Wednesday
afternoon and evening, October 22nd,
when a large number called.
The tea table was covered with a
lace cloth and centred with pink can-

District W. I, Conference
East Huron District Women's
Institute will hold their fall conference
in FordWich on Tuesday, Nov. 4th at
1.30 p.m. Miss Jean Steckle, home
economist for Huron County will
speak. All Institute members are
invited. Visiting ladies will please
bring tarts.

At a quiet ceremony at the parson-
age on Saturday afternoon, Rev, J. W.
V. Buchanan united in marriage,
Audrey Mee, of Harriston, and Cam-
eron Carswell, also of Harriston. A

Mr, and Mrs, Wendell Gott, Stephen

First of the L, 0, L. progressive
euchres for this season was held on
Friday night in the Orange Hall. Mrs.
Mabel Stewart won the ladies' prize
and Mrs. M, Gilkinson (playing as a
man) won the men's prize.

Many friends will join in congrat-
ulations to Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ash-
ton, whose 32nd. wedding anniversary
was on October 27th., and to Mr. and
Mrs. E. H. Strong on the occasion of
their 25th wedding anniversary on
October 26th.
Miss Pat Strong, of Woodstock, was
a week-end visitor at her home,
Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Miles of Tor-
onto, visited with the latter's -brother,
Mr. Norman Wade and Mrs. Wade, on
Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mrs. Etta Pyke visited last week

The even tenor of life in this quiet
village was somewhat disturbed on
Friday night when the general store,
owned by Burns Moffatt, was entered
after the door had been forced. A
quantity of cigarettes and some cash
from the till was taken. This was the
first burglary ever remembered in
Bluevale. Mr. Moffatt had a glimpse
of the car as it drove away, but did
not recognize it.
Curling Club Dance
On Friday evening the Country Curl.
ling Club held a dance in Bluevale
Community Hall. Music was supplied
by Tiffin's orchestra. Members of the
Women's Institute suppled the re-
freshments. A business meeting was
held and the following awards were
given:

Rev, M. Bailie, of Knox Presbyter-
ian Church, preached anniversary ser-
mons in. St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church, Clinton, on Sunday, Rev. D.
Lane of Clinton, Preached at Bluevale
and Belmore. At Bluevale his text was
"The House of God is the Church of
the Living God, the pillar and ground
of truth," from first Timothy, Chapter
3, verse 15.
In the United Church on Sunday
morning, Rev. R. A. Brook used the
text from Kings, "As Thy servant was
busy about many things," to show

In honor of their Silver wedding an-
niversary, relatives gathered last 1VIens
day evening at the home of Reeve E.
H. and Mrs, Strong and surprised
them with gifts in silver and also a
table lamp. The evening was spent
playing cards and later refreshments
were served which included a beautt,
fully, decorated two-storey wedding
cake, Again on Friday evening, the
neighbors paid a visit and Mr. and
Mrs. Strong were reeipients of silver
gifts and a social time was enjoyed by
all.
Auxiliary Meets
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the Howick
Legion held their regular monthly
meeting on Monday evening, October
20th., when Zone Commander, Miss
Dorothy Hoyle, of Stratford, paid her
annual visit. A gift was presented to
Miss Hoyle from the members,
Committees were appointed and
plans made for the rummage sale to
be held on November 8th. Tea will be
served and there will be a baking
booth, This will be held in the L.O,L.
hall, Gorrie.
Personals
Visitors at the borne of Mrs. P. S.
McEwan recently were cousins from
steno, Nevada; Messrs. Neil and Bruce
MeVicar and their sister, Mabel. They
were visiting relatives and friends in
Detroit, WoOdstock, Listowel, Ford-
wich and Molesworth. Mr. and Mrs.
Nelson Cardiff, of Brussels, accomp-
anied them.
Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Shaw visited
their mother, Mrs. Arthur Shaw, on
Sunday on the occasion of her 90th
birthday.
Rev. Mr. Bailie addressed the Lions
Club in Blyth last week on the sub-
ject, "Ireland in General."
Members of the Ladies' Aid of Knox
Presbyterian Church are holding a
bazaar on Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Ralph Cdskinette and sons,
Howard and Gerald, of Preston, were
guests of the former's mother, Mrs.
Edward Wadel.
Mr. Irving McCabe and son, of
Windsor, and Bruce and Barrie Har-
ris, of St. Marys, were week-end vis
itors with Mr. and Mrs. Carl John-
ston.
Miss Jessie Holmes has gone to
spend the winter with her sister, Mrs
Alex Mackie, of Drumbo,
Mrs. P. D. King and Mrs. Miner
Wilkinson, visited Bluevale friends on
Tuesday.

Women's Institute
Mrs. Cecil Wilson was hostess for
the October meeting of the Gorrie
Women's Institute on Tuesday. Mrs.
Glad. Edgar, vice-pres., presided. Com-
mittees were appointed and arrange-
ments completed for catering for the
Milk Producer's Banquet on Friday
evening, Nov, 7th. A donation of $25
was voted to the Wingham Hospital
Auxiliary. There were 22 members and
3 visitors in attendance. The roll call
was answered by a selection from a
Canadian author.
The president, Mrs. Cecil Wilson,
introduced the guest speaker, Miss
Minnie McElwaine, librarian of the
Fordwich Public Library, who gave an
interesting and instructive talk on
"Good reading for winter evenings."
Mrs. W. C. King reported on the re-
cent convention of the Guelph Area
held in Kitchener. Mrs. Clarence Spar-
ling favoured with several piano sele-
ctions. Mrs. Lenwood Edgar and Mrs.
Jack Hutchison were winners in the
Dutch auction. Assisting the hostess
to serve refreshments were Mrs. E. H.
Strong and Mrs. Gordon Brown.
