St. Paul's Marks
Harvest Festival
(Continued from page one.)
fruits to God, Our modern Harvest
festival is in reality a continuance,
under 'Christian inspiration, of the
Jewish Feast of Tabernacles-the
time when the Hebrews were asked
to forsake their towns and cities
temporarily to spend a few days in
the open country, symbolic of a closer
relationship to God,
The Dean reminded his listeners
that God has promised that seed time
and harvest would never fail-and He
has kept Hs promise. Though there
have been isolated places where the
promise appears to have-been broken,
the earth has each year provided
ample cox. all, Man has, many times,
failed to distribute this plenty to
those who need it.
Harvest, he said, e teaches two
fundamentals-obedience and depen-
dence. Obedience to the laws of God
in planting and tending the crop and
utter faith and dependence on the
good will of the heavenly Father to
fill the grain and ripen the fruit.
Speaking at the evening
Dean Brown
to be our blessings, he mentioned
not only the abundance of the actual
agricultural harvest, but many other
things such as the valor of the young
men Who have given their lives in
our defence, and the simple things,
such as friendships, the chance to
labor and to rest, the privilege of the
printed word, and the freedom to
live as we wish,
In' conclusion the speaker said that
above all Harvest teaches that if we
are ever to reach our full goal of
usefulness we must learn to say "all
things come of Thee". Until that
time each of us carries in hini an
element of danger which only !till de-
pendence upon God can eliminate.
The anthem at the morning service
was "Fear Not, 0 Land" by C. Sim-
per and at the evening service, "Sing
To The Lord of Harvest" by S. H.
Maunder, Miss Pat Rider was soloist
at both services,
