Grandmothers' Meeting
Over fifty ladies gathered at the
Memorial Hall here last Tuesday for
the grandmothers' meeting of the
Women's Institute. Mrs. Jas. Mc-
Innis, president, presided. Mrs. W.
J, Coulter, gave a very interesting
talk on, "'Old days, old ways", and
the world as it used to be, During
her talk she showed the ladies a
baby's dress eighty-seven years old,
that her mother had used as a
christening garment for her eight
children. Mrs. Hers= Irwin gave a
reading, "How best we can have a
perfect day," and Mrs. Gordon Mc-
Burney and Mrs. Alex Robertson
sang, "When we come to the end of
a perfect day". Mrs. Lance Grain
gave an interesting reading, "Are
you a member?" Mrs. Victor Emer-
son had a very interesting historical
paper on the work of the Methodist

Mr, and Mrs Herbert Laidlaw and
'Ivan and Marilyn Morrison visited
recently with Mr and Mrs Vernon
Stockill, at Powasson.
I Quite a number gathered on Friday
evening in the Hall here. Mr. Alex
Robertson was chairman for the
,occasion, and a varied program was
presented. Mr. Wm, Henry and Mrs.
Ernest Casemore provided the music
for dancing, and all enjoyed the lunch
and corn-roast.
i Mr. Nat Thomson spent a few days
last week in London, with his bro-
ther, Mr, Stanley Thomson, of Forest,
who has been seriously ill in Victoria
Hospital for a week, following an
accident, when he fell out of an apple
'tree. Since then he has recovered
'sufficiently to return home. His
back was injured and his limbs para-
lyzed.
Mr. William Taylor of Lacombe,
Alta., spent the week-end here at the
home of his sister, Mrs. Joe Tiffin,
Sr., and with her family.
Mrs. Lorne Durnin and sons, of
St. Helens, visited on Sunday with
her mother, Mrs. David Kennedy.
Nurse Olive Terriff of Listowel
Hospital Staff, is spending this week
at her home here.
Mrs. Andrew Kirk visited last
Thursday at the home of her niece,
Mrs. Bernard Hall, Blyth.
Attend Convention
Mr. Fred Newman, and other post-
masters in this district were at Pres-
ton last week attending the postmas-
ters' convention on Monday last,
when Schneiders entertained them at
la picnic at Blair. Tuesday evening
!the T. Eaton Co. entertained them at
la banquet, and the Robert Simpson
entertained them at a banquet on
!Wednesday evening, when they were
addressed by the Postmaster General.
About three hundred were in atten-
dance.
Mr. Gordon Elliott last week sold
his farm on the 4th of Kinloss to Mr.
McNeil, of Lucknow, who gets pos-
session this fall.
Quite a number of Junior Farmers
from this district and Belgrave, at-
tended the church meeting on Sunday
ev'ening in North St. United Church,
Goderich. Those who assisted in the
choir were Marjorie Elliott, Betty
;Newman, Shirley Bradburn, Loraine
Hanna, and Ross MacGregor.
I Miss Dorothy Pattison led in pray-
er, and Mr. Angus Falconer acted as
usher.
Rev. and Mrs. Hugh McMillan, re-
turned; missionaries from Formosa,
land Miss Grace McIntosh, of Toron-
'to, visited on Friday last with Mr.
and Mrs. Albert McQuillin.
Miss Annie Elliott and Mrs. Mason,
if Paris, also Miss Rebecca McQuoid,
if Lucknow, were guests last week
with Mrs. Allan Turner.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm Rintoul and
family visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs, Gordon Caldwell, of Blyth.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hayes, of De-
troit, spent the week-end at the
home of Mr. and Mrsa. Russell Ritchie,
of Langside, and his sister, Mrs.
Reuben Tiffin, who had been visit-
ing in Detroit for the past month,
returned home with them.
Mr. E. H. Groskorth, with other
tgents for Canada Packers, attended
t meeting at Toronto on Saturday.
