The mayor of Elkart. Ind., is a
mighty proud person these days. He
has just received the Purple Heart.
It came 33 years, 10 months, 11 days
after he was gassed in the Argonne
Forest in World War I.
The U. S. treasury recently tried to
burn $2 million worth of worn-out
bills, but its incinerator wouldn't
work, Washington firemen had to

A city youth spending his vacation
working on a farm was discovered
one morning stuffing a small pig
into a bucket, and muttering, "It's a
miracle!"
"What are you trying to do?" de-
manded the farmer. "And what's a
miracle?" "I can't figure it out," said
the city fellow. "This pig just drank
two buckets of milk, and I put him
into the bucket and he doesn't even
half fill it!"

Ross McKenzie in. The Paisley Ad-
vocate tells of an Elderslie Township
Miss striding to the barn when a vis-
itor drove in the laneway. The farm
girl was wearing overalls and from
the pockets bulged a pair of pliers
and a screw driver. She carried a set
of socket wrenches.
Climbing from his car, the visitor
asked! "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to milk the cows."
"But why do you need all those
tools?"
"The milking machine won't let go
of the cow."

While preparing a batter of eggs at
a Seaforth bakery last week, Ken
Southgate discovered an oddity that's
often heard about but seldom seen,
Cracking open one particular egg, he
found a smaller egg, surrounded by
the white of the first egg. When the
shell of the smaller egg was opened
it was found to contain more white,
but no yolit, two eggs in one, but no
yolk in either,

After hitting a detective's car, driv-
er Herbert Feldman of New York city
was arrested because he wasn't wear-
ing glasses as his license required.
Jittery after a station-house session,
Feldman put on his glasses, stepped
on the gas and cracked into two cars,
one the same detective's.
Up in Hillcrest last week, a young
boy about eight years old was wildly
twisting the steering wheel of his
dad's parked car and uttering motor-
like sounds. I watched him awhile,
then leaned over and said, "Hey, I3ud,
you'd better stick your arm out when
you go 'around a curve or Chief Irwin
will be giving you a tieket."
He regarded me scornfully, "Look,
Bob," he said, "You stick your arm
out of a space ship and yoW11 have it
ripped off."
