Lorne King Receives Injuries

Reception for
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Carson
A lovely studio couch in green
velour was presented to Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Carson, the former Margaret
Wearring, on Thursday night, when
there was a large gathering of
friends at the community hall. Mrs.
Earl King read a humorous address
in rhyme. The evening was spent
in dancing and refreshments were
served.
The Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan, B,A.,
H.E., will be inducted into the Gerrie
charge of the United Church of
Canada on Thursday evening, july
31st. Service to commence at 8 IP.m.
with the Rev. W. R. Tristram, of
Fordwich, in charge assisted by the
Rev. R. A. Brook, H,Th., of Bluevale,
Ladies' Auxiliary
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the How-
ick Legion met in the Legion rooms
for their regular meeting, with Mrs,
Ridley presiding, Members are in-
vited to attend a Drumhead service
to be held in Goderich on Aug. 3rd.
Mrs. Earl Baker, who is moving to
London in the near future, was pre-
sented with ife, cup and saucer, Mrs.
Baker also won the mystery box,
Anglican Church Service Withdrawn
For the first four Sundays in
August there will be no service at
St. Stephen's Church as the Rev, G.
D. Vogan will be on holiday. Mr, and
Mrs. Vogan are spending their va-
cation at London and other, points.
From Aug. 18th to 28th, Mr. Vogan
will be at the Church of England
Camp near Hayfield, where he will be
instructor in church history,
Newlyweds Honored
On Tuesday night of last week Mr.
and Mrs. Hugh Hutchison (nee Marie
Johnston) were honored by friends
and neighbors at a miscellaneous
shower in the community hall The
evening was spent in dancing to
Music by the Fordwich Orchestra,
Mrs, Fydell, of Smithville, spent
last week with her daughter, Mrs.
Gerald Galbraith, after returning
from her cottage at Fort Elgin,
Mrs, Lochead, Detroit, and Mrs.
lda Griffith, of Wingham, visited
on Monday and Tuesday with Miss
Emma Irwin,
Miss Jean Scott, home economist
for Huron county and well known
to many girls in Howick, has been
transferred to Perth with headquart-
ers at Stratford. Miss Jean Steckle,
Kitchener, will succeed her as home
economist for Bruce and Huron with
headquarters at Walkerton,
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fear and their
daughter, Mrs. Brown, of Blyth,
visited Mrs. Armstrong on Tuesday.
L.O.B.A, Receives Prize
A cheque for five dollars has been
received by Mrs, Geo. King, treas., of
the. L.O.B.A., as a prize for the best-
dressed lodge in the parade at Wing-
ham on July 1st. The ladies were
wearing new capes and berets.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Willow, of Vic-
toria Square, are spending a few days
with Mr, and Mrs. Fred Feigel, con,

Peter, of Toronto, are spending this

spent the week-end at the home of
his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Earl

Mr, and Mrs, Jack Hutchison and
Jack Edgar spent the week-end with

Edgar, of London, have been visiting

Mrs, Edgar, with their guests, motor-
ed to Kingston last week and took

Carol, Fergus, visited Mr, and Mrs.
Tom Short on Saturday enroute to
Port Elgin, where they will spend a
few days. Ronald Short, Fergus,
spent the week-end with his grand-
parents.

is visiting with Mr. and Mrs, T, L,
McInnes,
Mr, and Mrs, Lorne Walker and
Edith spent last week with the
former's brother, Mr. Mervyn Walker,
and Mrs, Walker, 'Coldwater.
Mrs. Allan Emmerson and Mr. Geo,
Emmerson, of Owen Sound, visited
Friday with Mr. and Mrs, Elmer
Downey.
Miss Shirley Jackson, Brussels,
spent last week with her grand-
mother, Mrs. Chas. Kitchen.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos, Nickel, Tees-
water, visited Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Gallaway.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Shera accom-
panied Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McDer-
mitt and family to visit Mr. and Mrs.
John Fitch Sr., near Beth-tore.
On Thursday, July 31st, Mr. and Mrs.
Milton Watson will be fifty-one years
married. Congratulations and best
wishes are extended.

Mrs, B. greaves, Fordwich, visited
with Mrs. F. C. Taylor the first of

family, Mr. Jim Marwick, who has

Ferguson attended the Meadd re-
union at Mr, Harold Corbett's farm
near Lucan on Saturday.

City, and Mr. and Mrs. Ketterborn, of
Milverton, were visitors last week
with Mr. and Mrs, Cloyne Michel,
Mrs. Kenny left Melton by plane for
Calgary on Saturday,
Misses Eleanore Carson and Nellie
Ruttan, of Toronto, and Kathie Ford,
Tillsonburg, were week-end visitors
at their respective homes.

Word came to Westfield of the
death of Mrs, James Hoover, of Ed-
monton, Alta. Mrs. Hoover was for-
merly a Westfield resident. Tim fun-
eral was held at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Frank (Eleanor) Far-
ley.
Visitors last week at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Snell were Mrs.
J, McBrian, of Goderich, Miss Mau-
reen Kurschinski, of Detroit, and Mr.

Word has been received here that daughters are recovering nicely from
Lorne King, who has been working shock, brnises, and lacerations which
they received on Tuesday when their
car plunked over the embankment
South of Mrs. Kaine's residence.
They were taken to the Wingharn
General Hospital but were able to re-
turn to their home on Wednesday,
Mrs. McCracken also received a
broken rib. Several hundred dollars
damage was done to their car,
