The keeper invited Mr. Knight to come into the enclosure, when a mutual recognition took place. The elephant wound his trunk around Itir. Knight's arm and gave other af- fectionate caresses peculiar to ele- phants. It turned out that Knight, who is 72 years of age, was for many years in his earlier days attached to P. T.
