A GENERAL MOTORS VALUE! Stack up what you get for what you pay ...and join the nation's largest group of truck buyers by choosing Chevrolet MORE RUT CHEVROLET TRUCKS THAN ANY OTHER MAKE Maybe you didn't know that by far the biggest number of truck users in Canada today are buy- ing Chevrolet Trucks. They are . . . and for good hard-headed reasons. Because what they're after in a truck can be set down about like this: ; 1) It's got to be low in cost. No use paying a lot of extra money for a truck that the truck will have to earn back. Chevrolet trucks give you more for your money. 2) Upkeep and operating costs must be low. A truck is money-making equipment. It can't be a money-waster. Chevrolet trucks work for rock-bottom "wages" on fuel and maintenance. 3) How well the truck does the job is all- important. It's got to have the capacity, power and rugged construction to get work done—effi- ciently and economically. Chevrolet trucks are engineered and built for your loads. 4) The truck must be rugged, long lasting. That's an important part of over-all economy. Chevrolet trucks traditionally bring more at tradetin, for what they cost, than any other truck. If these considerations make sense to you, take a good long look at facts 1, 2, 3 and 4 below. Then come'in and let's see how a Chevrolet truck can save you money in your business. A church convention in session at the same time prevented the Michi- gan members of the clan from being present as formerly. Those present came from Wingham, Belgrave, Blue- vale, Auburn, Londesboro, Goderich, Dashwood, Grand Bend, London and Chatham. A noon dinner was served, under the convenership of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Vincent, Auburn; after which sports—and, games were enjoyed by young and old, under the leader- ship of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent, Belgrave. A picnic supper in the evening was followed by the election of officers for 1953 as follows: presi- dent, John Vincent, Goderich; sec.- treas., Clare Vincent, Londesboro; sports, Mr. and Mrs. L. Adams, Lon- don; grounds etc., Albert and Norman Vincent, Grand Bend. It was decided to hold the reunion for next year on the third Saturday of June instead of the second, at the same place. The oldest member present, was Mr. Henry Link, of Dashwood, and the youngest, Jackie, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Vincent, Lon- desboro, ale* QUEBEC MARITIMES (EAST Of MEGANTICIEV15-DIAMO ND) Make It a memorable sun-filled vacation in Canada's "Down East" playground. Wool is temporarily weakened when wet, and you may stretch it by such treatment, The Fanning Mill by Bob Carbert • The other day, I heard a fellow say, "My, I wish we could get the farmers Interested in more of our sports ac- tivities, get them to take op golf, curling, bowling ,and some more of these sports. We could use their support, and they could use the recre- ation." Well, many of our town organizations could use a little sup- port from the farmers; and the good fellowship that these recreational groups enjoy, would do most of the farmers* a lot of good, but as far as the exercise is concerned, well ,1 , I don't know. Take golf for example, First you hit the ball ,and then you walk around a nine hold course after it. Farmers get the same exercise, from hoeing their turnips, and walking be- hind the harrows, or bringing the cows from the back field night and morning, Some gay that searching for the ball is good for the mind, sharpens your intellect. Did yOu ever try hunting fora broody hen and her nest, a cat with kittens ,or a double- tree clevis, when you're in a hurry? It gives the same results. Then, the exercise to be gained from bowling or curling. The same back- bending exercise can be had from picking strawberries, potatoes, ruta- bags, or weeds from the garden vege- tables, Y'ou could well compare the harvest-time stooking of grain, with tennis, or lacrosse. The same muscles are used, even if the surroundings are different, About the only things that farmers go for, in the way of sport, are swim, ming, baseball ,and hockey. Swimming is important en the farm while base- ball and hockey, both learned in boyhood days at school, are excellent ways to keep up your team spirit. Take dancing, most farmers youg and old like dancing, although an old Methodist farmer I once knew called it, "an invention of the devil", and "wrestling set to music". In some oases I agree with him in the latter comment, but it's still good exercise— good recreation—good fun, Yes, the farmer has been called muscle-bound. He has been accused of being all brawn and no brains. He is described as clumsy and awkward, and everytime an athlete appears to be less graceful than his competitors he is called "a farmer". Well, that is the greatest tribute you can ever pay to anyone, to call him a farmer. After all, to be muscle-bound, you have to have muscles, and that is one thing that a farmer usually has plenty of. Farming is healthful, it's invigorat- ing, it's body building. Very few farmers need to take sleeping pills when night rolls around, as hard work in the open air will never bring on insomnia. I would recommend that more of our townsfolk, and our city people, who make such light use of the term "farmer", spend a few days or a week o ftheir holiday this summer, doing the same work as the farmers. They will find that farming is a profession, even more skilled and more highly diversified than their own, It's good recereatlon torf. I welcome; even though they will be more in the way, than good, for the first week, until they find out what tarmlng is all about.
