Safety Drive
,Couneiller Kenneth Pennington,
ehairman of the special committee of
Teem Council, is spear-heading a
drive to tighten traffic-control in
both drivers and pedestrians.
For, over a week now Pennington
has been personally superintending
the painting of crosswalks and park-
ing areas on the Square, where signs
have also been installed warning
motorists not to park beyond the in-
tide limits of the cross walks. He has
also asked for the co-operation of
citizens in avoiding jaywalking in
order to cut down on traffic hazards.
Pedestrians should walk between the
white lines at the street intereseetions
and drivers are warned that the park-
ing by-laws will be strictly enforeed.
For visiting motorists who are un-
familiar with local parking regula-
tions, warning tickets will be used.
These will contain a courteously-
worded message of welcome to visit-
ors, excusing them for inadvertently
God knows how much I miss you,
He counts the tears I shed,
And whispers, "He only sleeps,
Your loved one is not dead."
So I'll be brave, dear Oliver,
And pray to God each day,
And when He calls me home to you
Your smile will guide the way.
So, Dear God, will you take a mes-
sage
To our dear Oliver in heaven above:
Just tell him how much we miss him,
And give him all our love.

ORME CHURCH MARKS
SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday, January 22nd, the
Gornis United Church marked the
60th anniversary of the laying of the
cornerstone of the church, with very
special services, when Rev, Fred W.
°rant, of Alliston, a %eloved minister
from 1926-31, was the preacher.
Invitations were sent out to former
members, and at the morning service
the spacious auditorium and gallery
were filled to capacity. There was
also a fine attendance for the evening
service. Mr. Craik chose as his sub-
ject in the morning, "Our Appoint-
ment with God Almighty", using as
his text Psalm 27:8, and bringing an
inspirational message to take time
in the rush and hurry of life to keep
our appointment with God. Mr. Bill
Conron, Wingham, was guest soloist
singing, "How lovely are thy courts",
and, "Beside still waters". Mr, George
Gregg was at the organ.
For the evening service, Mr. Crailt
followed the morning discourse by
speaking on, "When we Keep our
appointment with God," and his text
was from Luke 14:27,"and whosoever
doth not bear his cross and come
after me cannot be my disciple",
again giving an impressive address
on taking up the cross of Christ. Rev.
J. R. Watt and Rev. Mr. Brooks of
Bluevale, assisted in the service. The
choir sang two anthems with Mrs.
Bill Mann at the organ.
On Monday evening the ladies of
the church served a Dianiond Jubilee
garden party supper in the church
basement, folloWed by a play, "Her
Step Husband", by young people
from the Teeswater United Church.
Sixty years is a long time in the
life of a community and very few who
were present at the laying of the
cornerstone of the church are still
actively connected with it. Mr.
Harvey Spoiling was there as a
ismall boy and is still leader of the
choir, having been a member for
over fifty years. He was also Sun-
day School superintendent for a
number of years and is now a rnem-
I ber of the session,
violating the by-Jaws and API-041g them
to be careful in future but not to hesi-
tate to melte enquiries of the police,
Ire Avoid Confusion
In order to avoid =fusion of tlals;
kind and to avoid court actions
the case of minor parking by-law
violations, therefore, it has been de-
cided to issue parking tags to those
who knowingly break the traffic by-
laws, One dollar fines will be payable
to the Town Clerk at his office in the
Town Hall, Non-payment of the fines
will involve the issuing of a summons,
Parking tags will be issued to local
motorists and °others who are con-
scious of the fact that they are park-
ing illegally, The warning tickets are
for visitors from out-of-town who are
not familiar with the local parking
regulations. Offences cowered by the
tickets are all prohibited by local by-
laws and include parking in a prohib-
ited area, parking in one place for
more than 2l consecutive hours, park-
ing within five feet of a fire hydrant,
double parking and obstructing a
driveway or leneway,—Goderich Sig-

FOR RENT—Large. airy cottage

The building of the church, which
was then Methodist, was done during
the pastorate of Rev. Josias Green,
Rev. Dr, Kelly, Philadelphia, a former
Gorrie boy, was the preacher for the
laying of the cornerstones which were
laid by Jas. Leech, Daniel Harris,
Mrs, Cook and Mrs. A. M. Carson. In
1911, the Rev, Dr. Kelly again return-
ed from Philadelphia to be the
preacher for anniversary services,
commemorating the opening of the
first Methodist church in Gorrie,
when many former members re- ,
turned.
Highlights of the church history
Were the installation of a pipe organ,
during the ministry of Rev. R. J.
Garbutt, 1898-1903, and the building
of the 'parsonage during the pastorate
of Rev. H. W. McTavish, 1908. When
union was consummated in 1925, it
became a , branch of the United
Church. The interior of the church
was redecorated in 1950, and in 1951
a new Minshall organ was installed
for good in the community and the
lives consecrated to God's service.
Rev. J. R. Watt has been minister for
the past three years.
