She thought it was a very fine party indeed. The whole shin-dig wound up wig five girls sitting drinking bicarbonate of soda, in water, and a few of the more energetic ones folding first-aid bandages in the laundry room. This was apparently the first Grade XI party since Christmas, but it may not be the last, There is a rumour that the IXA girls may have the same thing all over again, and invite the XA girls, At four o'clock Pat Rider feebly groaned from the depths of the chesterfield, It wasn't the stuff I ate, it was the amount of it. It J. cousin, Mrs. DUSORIPTIST PARAGRAPH by Hugh Sinnanion The queerest pet X ever had was a tiny monstrosity having only two noticeable dimensions, namely length and height, As we see it glide through the water in the spacious aquarium it seems toohave a very strange mov- ing apparatus. Only. a small part of the long stiff dorsal fin seems to move. Its twin, the anal fin, is sim- ilar in appearance. A strange looking tentacle is attached near the gills, on each side of its head. Its tail, almost rectangular in ap- pearance, is gracefully flexible and provides the go-ahead force. Moving sideways is out of the question. Of all the creatures in the aquarium, it wan the strangesa—violently unsociable among its own kind; but peaceful and gentle when the other fish, mostly only a quarter as big,t eyed him with admiration. Its silver and blank strip- ed body blended with the bodies of the many-hued males, and its large tele- scopic eyes, glowed in the dim, half- light of the underwater world. Unlike most aquarium fish, it had a quick temper. The female of this species being larger usually took it out on the male. To experts it is known as the Scalar; but to other aquarists it is the most beautiful of tropical fish, the "Angel Fish." JOKES The country boy was showing Miss Behrns around the farm. "This is to- bacco in bloom," he said, pointing. "Oh," said Miss 13chrns, "How long will it be before the cigars are ripe?" 9 - 0 - 0 Donna Jeffs (at 1 a.m.?
