The Board accepted this tender on the recommendation of the architect, and in view of the fact that the suc- cessful bidder is a long established construction firm, and has built other schools, to which the lower bidder could not lay claim, Lucknow Bridge Receives Repairs The cement top on the Main Street bridge on the Nine Mile River, is breaking up and had to undergo tem- porary emergency repairs last week. The surface of the north half of the bridge has cracked badly and on Friday of last week a hole developed as small pieces of concrete loosened and fell through to the river below. there, She was the recipient of many lovely gifts and was showered with good wishes for her future happiness. On Thursday of last week at the home of Nelson Pickell of the and of Culross, a miscellaneous shower was held for Miss Helen Walters a bride- to-be of early June. The shower was arranged by Miss Barbara MacKay, Mies Melva Montgomery, Mrs. Glen Appleby and Mrs. Piekell. The guest- of-honour was taken by surprise, es- pecially when her two sisters made the trip from London for the occa- sion. Friends and neighbours, num- bering nearly fifty, presented many lovely and useful gifts to the bride- elect, which were wheeled into the room by her niece, Connie McRae, on the crib she herself slept in when a baby. Let the people be informed about alcohol, Is it a food or is it a poison Is it a narcotic or is it a stimulant? Surely no one is so simple as to suppose, that if the public knew all that is to be known about alcohol, the problem that alcohol has created would be solved, Alcoholics know that alcohol is killing them but they keep on drinking, Moderate drinkers know that alcohol is a habit- forming beverage but they keep on drinking, Car drivers know that al- cohol lessens their efficiency as car drivers but they keep on drinking. The government knows that alcohol is public nuisance number one, but it keeps on tolerating it, Education is not enough. Knowledge is not enough. How to get people to do as they know —that's the sixty-four dollar question. The only sane conclusion to the mat- ter is that wisdom is in abstinence.— (ADVT.)
