The high team from the north, with Ross McGregor as eaptain; Bill Purdon, Betty New- man arid Mr. and Mrs. Angus Fal- coner as Members, bowled against the high team from the south; composed of Captain Harry Lear, June Lear, Edith Beacom, Bert Lyon and Law- rence Plaetzer. The team from the south won two games out of three, and was warded the shield. On Fri- ,day evening, a bowlers' banquet is being held in Whitechurch, and the Shield and trophies will be presented to the winners. On Wednesday evening of this week, the Blyth-Belgrave Calf Club and the North Huron Swine Club are meeting at the home of the club leader, Bill Taylor. Classes of livestock will be judged, and a discussion will be held on how and why judging is important in the Junior Club programme. The members will also learn how to make a rope halter. Blyth Tractor Maintenance 411 Club by Sidney Thompson The monthly meeting of the Blyth Tractor Maintenance 4H Club was held last Wednesday evening at Stew- art Johnston's Massey-Harris shop at Blyth. Eiden Cook, the preident, ask- ed for the minutes and the roll call. He then turned the meeting over to Jack Turnbull who took charge of the discussions on fuels and earburet- ion, He explained the difference in the grades of gas, and how it was re- fined, He also explained the different parts of the carburetor and how they worked. He passed around a Marvel carburetor which had part of it cut away. He also conducted a, quiz on the information learned at the meet- ing, Murray Bradburn expressed the club's thanks to Mr. Johnston for the use of his shop and tractor. The meet- ing then adjourned Farmers who raise poultry should make every effort to protect their flocks from the red fox during the next two months. The young fox pups can now be seen around their .dens, and the mother, with so many mouths to feed naturally finds it much easier to take her young a nice plump chick- en or duck, etc., rather than to go out and catch dozens of mice, ST, HELENS W.111.S. and 'W.A. Mrs. Gordon MacPherson was hos- tess for the May meeting of the W, M. S. and W. A. of the United Church on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. W. L Miller presided for the W. M. S, and Mrs John Cameron led in the worship service, The treasurer reported that $35 had been sent to the Presbyterial treasurer for the first quarter and the Easter Thankoffering had been $23.50. It was decided to quilt two quilts for the bale in the church the following Tuesday. Mrs. W. A. Miller read a short article from the study book on the Orientals in Canada. Mrs. T. J. Todd and Mrs. MacPherson representing two Japanese women told of the help the church is giving them. Mrs. W. I. Miller gave an in- teresting report of the Huron Pres- byterial held in Clinton. Mrs. James Curran, the president, was in the chair for the meeting of the W. A. which opened by the singing of the theme hymn, the repetition of the theme prayer, and the creed. The theme of the worship service was "What God expects of Christians in the use of time and possessions." Mrs. Lorne Durnin read the Scripture les- son and Mrs. W. A. Miller, the com- ments. It was reported that a new electric pump had been installed in the manse, zid it was agreed to have the piano in-the church tuned. At the conclusion, lunch was served, with Mrs. Frank McQuillin and Mrs. Cur- ran as hostesses. Mrs. W. J. Todd of London, has been visiting friends as the guest of MrS, D. Todd. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Berndt of De- troit, were week-end guests of her sister, Mrs, MacFarlane and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon MacPherson. Southampton Discusses New School Southampton ratepayers, those who were interested enough to attend the public meeting in the town hall on Monday night of last week, were given a first hand account of the action of the School Board to date on the pro- ject of building a new public school here, Cost figures and the effect these would have on the tax rate were presented and plans of. the proposed building were on display. Mayor Smith, chairman, expressed his disappointment that more of the ratepayers were not present and ask- ed that opinions on the question be voiced so that the Council and the Board might evaluate public feeling on that matter.
