Young Adult Group Meets
The regular meeting of the Young
Adult Group of the United Church
was held on Tuesday evening last at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Fal-
coner, with the president, Mr. Clif-
ford Laidlaw, presiding, Miss Mar-
jorie Coultes read the Scripture les-
son, and Mrs. Falconer led in pray n".
Mrs. Clarence IVfcClenaghan had
charge of the meditation period, and
Mrs, Garnet Farrier had charge of
the topic, telling the history of the
local post office, the changes through
the years. Mrs. Farrier sang a solo,
"Jesus, I Am Resting," and the meet-
ing closed by all repeating the Miz-
pah benediction. Ivan Laidlaw was
convener of the recreation period,
and all enjoyed the games, contests
and social time,
Many in this community will ex-
tend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Peter
Moffatt and their family, former resi-
dents of the 4th concession of Kin-
loss, in the loss of their son, George,
who passed away in Wingham Hospi-
tal after an accident in the bush.
The funeral was held on Thursday
from the home in Kinloss, with his
pastor, Rev. R. D .A. Currie of Lang-
side officiating ,and with his six
brothers, Tom, Bert, Dave, Lloyd,
Jimmie and Billie as pallbearers. One
sister, Mrs. Jas. McPherson (Jean)
of Culross, also survives, Interment
was in Teeswater cemetery.
Man,:: from this district attended
the funeral in Currie's funeral home,
Wingham, on Friday ,of the late Mr,
Peter Gowans, a former teacher of
S. 5, No. 10, Kinloss.

Church here last week,
There has been a lot of sickness
from flu in the community during
the week-end. Mr. William Weest”r
of W. Wawanosh, Mr. John Me-
Burney and Grant, Mrs. John Mason,
Janet Beecroft, Mr. Frank Coulter
are still on the sick list, and six-year-
old Marlene Martin, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Martin, was a pat-
ient in Wingham Hospital for a few
days last week with pneumonia en
both lungs.
Elwyn Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Milian Moore, has been laid up with
sels, visited on Friday last at the
home of their sister, Mrs. 'Wm. Rin-
toul,

and friends quilted three quilts in the
Orange Hall on Tuesday afternoon
when over thirty ladles were present,
,Readings were given by Mrs. Hairy
Ring, by Miss Campbell and the
president, Mrs. N, Wade, who presid-
ed for a short business meeting. Mrs.
N. Wade and Mrs. Gordon Under-
wood were appointed to meet a com-
mittee from the other churches to
arrange for the World Day of Prayer
on February 29th. The roll call, a
verse having the word "World,"
brought a good response, Miss Camp-
bell conducted a Bible Quiz. The
meeting was closed with all joining
in the Member's -Prayer. Refresh-
ments were served. Next meeting
will he held on Thursday, Feb. 7th at
tlie home of Mrs. Geo. King at

United Church, News
The Mission Band held their meet-
ing Saturday afternoon in the church
basement. Each child brought a toy
to be sent to hospital in West, valen-
tines were also made to send to an
orphanage. The meeting opened with
members repeating the Mission Band
purpose. The minutes were read and
approved, roll call answered with the
name of a bird. Twenty-two were
present, The Juniors were read an-
other chapter of "The Three Henrys
and .Mrs. Hanicle", Seniors "The
Twins Make Friends". The meeting
closed with singing of "I am so glad
that our Father in Heaven".
Young People's Union
The meeting of the Y.P.U. was held
at the home of Anna Toner on Sun-
clay night opening with the hymn, "I
love to tell the Story" Scripture was
read by Jim Walker. Hymn 488 was
sung, minutes read and adopted. 23
members were present, Belgrave
Y,P.U, are being entertained on Fri,
day night at a skating party. Roy
Bridge g ave, a topic on "Christian
Citizenship". Mr. Watt led in dis-
cusgion, Spirituals were sung. Meet-
ing closed with Benediction and lunch
was served.
Euchre Party
On Wednesday evening the Ladies'
Auxiliary to the Howick Legion spon-
sored a successful euchre party which
was held in the Legion rooms, Prize
winners were Mrs. Frank King and
Mr. Mel, Allan. Twelve tables were
in play. The lucky chair prize went
to Mrs. Reta Carson.
Women's Institute
The February meeting of the Gorrie
Women's Institute will be held at the
home of Mrs. W. C. King on Tues-
day, February 12th at 2.30 p.m. Mrs.
J. Hutchison, Home Economics and
Health Convener, will be in charge of
program. Roll call "Something new
from something old".
Hockey
On IVIoncay night, January 28th in
the W.O.A.A. Intermediate B and C
series Gorrie played Ripley in the
Ripley -"Arena. Score was Ripley 12,
Gorrie' 10 after ten minutes overtime,
Thursday night in the Belmore
Arena, Gorrie won over Belmore 3-2.
In the play-offs best two out of three
series, Gorrie will meet Ayton at
on Friday following a ear accident.
His wife predeceased him a year ago,
and he leaves a grown family.
Mrs. John Purdon returned heave
on Sunday, after spending a week at
the home of her son, Mr. Clifford
Pardon of Belgrave. She brought
her little grandson, Ronald, home for
the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Falconer, Mr.
and Mrs. Angus Falconer and Allan,
Mr. and Mrs, Jas, Falconer and Lois,
Mr. and Mrs. 'qielison Falconer of
Wingham, spent Sunday with Mrs.
John Falconer and Mr. and Mrs.
Elgin Welwood of caleclon.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Purdon and
Archie, and Mr. Aldin Purdon spent
Sunday at the home of the former's
daughter, Mrs. Floyd Bott of Bel-
wood.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wightman
spent Monday at Teeswater, where
his uncle, Mr. John Roame, passed
away on Sunday.
The ladies of the W.M.S. of Brick
United Church held a quilting at the
home of • Mrs. Norman Coultes on
Tuesday.
Mr. Ernest Snowden has been a
patient during the past week"in Vic-
toria Hospital, London, having fur-
ther treatment on his eyes. Mr, and
Mrs. Roy Robinson and Mrs. Snow- '
den and Billie, visited with him on
Monday.

visited on Sunday at the home of

Mrs. George Walker and
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Purdon attended
the Institute "At Home" and euchre
at St. Helens on Friday evening and
Mrs, Purdon was fortunate in win-
ning• high score.
Mr. and Mrs, Calvert Falconer of
Blyth, visited on Monday with Mr.
and Mrs. Jas. Falconer.
Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Simmons
and Nancy ,of London, spent the
week-end at the home of her parents,
Mr. and 'Mrs. Chas. Martin.

Teeswater Wednesday night when
they lost 10 to 2 in favour of Tees-

Wilbur McCracken Dies
The death occurred early Sunday of
Mr, Wilbur McCracken at his home
on the C line, after a long illness.
Funeral service under Orange, aus-
piece was held in the Gorrie United
Church on Tuesday afternoon, Sym-
pathy of the community is extended
to the bereaved family.

The Woman's Missionary Society of
the United Church Wilf hold their
Free Tea at the home of Mrs. Rota
Carson on Thursday, Feb, 7th at 8.30
p.m. All the ladies are cordially in-
vited to attend.
Personals
Mr. Andrew Davidson, Molesworth,
is, at time of writing, a patient in
Wingham General Hospital. He has
been suffering 'intense pain. His son
Earl Davidson, Montreal, arrived by
plane Sunday.
Rev. and Mrs. Robt. Watt and Mr.
and Mrs. ,W. E. Whitfield attended
the installation of the Hon. Lester
Pearson as Chancellor of Victoria
College at the University of Toronto
in Convocation Hall on Monday night.
They also attended the reception
given in honour of the Chancellor and
Mrs. Pearson later in '.'ictorla Col-
lege. Mr. Pearson is himself a gradu-
ate of Victoria University which is
the United Church College affiliated
with the University of Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brown and John
visited friends in Toronto on Sunday.
They were accompanied by Mrs.
Webster Jacklin, Wroxeter south.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Edgar, Fran-
ces and Jimmie of Listowel spent
Wednesday, with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Edgar,
Mr. Alex. Taylor is able to be up
after being confined to bed for the
last few weeks. Friends are hoping
for a speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Paisley of
Eyebrow, Sask., spent Friday and
Saturday with the Maguire and Jor-
dan families.
Mr. Roy Strong was in Clinton on
Tuesday to 'attend the monthly meet-
ing of the Huron Co. Health Unit
Board.
Mrs, A. W. Kiel was in Listowel for
the last two weeks owing to the ill-
ness and death of her brother-in-law,
Mr. Wm. Ferguson. She returned
Sunday.
Mrs. Clara Ritchie spent the week-
end in Toronto,
Mrs. Etta Pyke is spending some
time with her daughter, Mrs. Carl
Fitch at Belmore.
Mr. Cameron Robertson has return-
ed to his home in Strathclair, Man.,
after visiting with his mother, Mrs.
Geo. Robertson, and sisters, Mrs.
Gordon Edgar and Mrs. Glad Edgar.

The regular monthly meeting of
the Ladies' Aid of the Presbyterian
Church met on Tuesday last at the
home of Mrs. Ezra Welwood with
Mrs. Earl Caslick, vice-president,
presiding. Seventeen ladies were
present. The Scripture lesson, Psalm
123 was read by Mrs. Jas. Mcilrath
and Mrs. Walter Lott led in prayer.
The afternoon was spent in cutting
and sewing quilt patches. Lunch was
served and all enjoyed the social time
together.
Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Craig and
sons, spent Sunday at the home of
her sister, Mrs. Wm. Peacock of
Bluevale.
Mrs. Thos Morrison visited .n Sat-
urday with her husband, a patient in
Westminster Hospital, London. Tom
had the cast off one foot, and mother
operation on his large toe, cutting
out the joint.
The February meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute will be held next
Tuesday, February 12th., at the home
of Mrs. Albert Coultes. The roll call
will be answered by "A resolution we
would like to see passed" and the re-
ports will be given, All the ladies in
the community are cordially invited
to attend.

onto, were week-end visitors at the
home of his parents, Rev. and Mrs.
W. J. Watt.
Mrs. Walter Lott is spending this
week at the home of her daughter,

Miss Marion Maclvor ,teacher at
Auburn and Mr. and Mrs. Sceord
Norman and family, spent the week-
end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Gibson Armstrong
and daughter, Gail, of London, spent
the week-end with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Hersop Irwin.
Mrs. Edward McBurnev and other
members of the Yuill family have
been visitors at the Wingham Hospi-
tal, with her mother, Mrs, Jos. Yuill,
of Belgrave, who was taken there by
ambulance on Thursday -ollowing a
serious stroke. Her condition is crit-
ical.
Mrs. Alex Robertson and Jimmie,
spent the week-end at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Fores-
ter of W. Wawanosh,
Mrs. George Caldwell and Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Caldwell of Blyth, and
Mr. and Mrs. Mack Cardiff of Brus-
Lions and Kinsmen Go "Stage Crazy"
Representing the Lions and the Kinsmen, R. S. Heth-
erington and Bob Clark were in charge of arrangements
for the recent production of Stage Crazy by the RCAF
personnel of the Clinton station here. The, job cer-
tainly had its compensations as can be seen by the

The Farm Forum met on Monday
evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
J. D. Beecroft, with an attendance of
30. Three groups discussed the ques-
tions and decided that some control
over markets has already been ac-
complished, in some areas, and with
certain commodities, and that, until
the farmers have sufficient organiza-
tion to look after surpluses the gov-
ernment should do this, even as they
look after imports when they are
required, and all considered that
stabilized prices would be preferable
over a length of years, rather than
fluctuating prices. Mrs. Chas. Martin
and Mr. J. D. Beecroft held high
points in the euchre games and Mrs.
Jas. Laidlav,, and Mr. Russell Fur-
don held low score. Lunch was served
and the social time enjoyed by all,

attending the funeral of their cousin,
Herbert Johnston, who pass al:n-

spent last week at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Donald Martin, and
Mrs. Robert Stewart of Kinloss, spent
the week-end there.
Mr. and Mrs. Myles McMillan and

and Donald, spent Saturday at Han-
over,
The three school sections in S. S.
No. 7, E. Wawanosh, held a euchre
on Friday evening in the schoolhouse,
playing thirteen tables. Mrs. Ken
Wheeler and Mr. Lewis Stonehouse
held high points, and Harold Woods
and Murray McDowell, low points.
The euchre this week will be held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin
Robinson.
