Ornaments a tradition
The holiday season is a time of
tradition and family gatherings,
and decorating the tree remains an
important part of the family holiday
celebration.
The origin of the Christmas tree,
traced back to 17th century Ger
many, was decorated with candles
and baked wafer cookies. The
American colonists, who quickly
adopted the custom from German
immigrants, used candles, fruit
and handmade trinkets for decora
tion. Handcrafted Christmas tree
ornaments became part of the
Christmas tradition for many fami
lies, and were handed down from
generation to generation.
Collecting ornaments helps pre
serve time-honored Christmas tra
ditions, and handcrafted annual
ornaments add to the family mem
ories of each holiday season.
