Blyth PeeWees stingy on defence, score shutouts BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Legion Pee Wees had another busy schedule last week as they played three league games in four days and came away with three wins. The team hosted Zurich on Monday, December 10, and emerg ed with a 6-3 win in a penalty-filled contest. Zurich opened the scoring 19 seconds into the game but Blyth evened the score 14 seconds later. Michael Slaverda put a screened shot past the goalie with assists to linemates Jason Rutledge and Brad Anderson. Brian McNichol scored a short- handed goal later in the period and Henry Bos, with an assist from McNichol, increased Blyth’s lead to 3-1 in the final minute of the first frame. Jason Rutledge increased the lead to 4-1 in the first minute of the second period with an unassisted screened shot. Midway through the period Blyth notched a power play tally as Chris Stewart took a pass from Ryan Chamney in the slot and fired a bullet-like wrist shot. Zurich closed out the second period with a power play goal of their own and the teams traded single goals in the third period. Benjie Hakkers and Greg Toll assisted on Blyth’s power play goal as Greg pinched in at the blue line and passed out to Shawn Hakkers nearlhe goal crease who recorded the goal. Zurich closed out the scoring late in the game as Blyth triumphed 6-3. Game two was played on Wed nesday, December 12 as Blyth travelled to Hensall where they New Brownies Crime Stoppers NOTICE AUBURN & LONDESBORO RESIDENTS The thief stole the above proper ty over the weekend of June 22, 1990. Brian McNichol and Henry Bos assisted on the goal after a wild goalmouth scramble where Ryan Chamney poked in the loose puck. The offence took the rest of the night off and only the stellar goaltending performances of Blyth’s tandem of Michael de Jong and Chris Lee kept Hensall off the scoreboard and enabled the Legion Pee Wees to emerge with a close 1-0 win. - Thursday, December 13 saw the Blyth Pee Wees travel to Huron Park where, once again, a defen sive struggle ensued. Blyth carried the play for most of the game as they won their second 1-0 game in a row. Blyth had a scare early in the game as left-winger Shawn Hak- kers was checked heavily to the ice where he remained until the ambu lance arrived. Trainer Al Craig did a masterful job of attending to the injury and we are happy to report that the injury wasn’t serious and Shawn escaped with only a bruised shoulder. The Legion Pee Wees played a penalty-free game and were re warded with the victory with 23 seconds left in the game. Defence men Peter Craig and Tim Cowan fed Brian McNichol breaking up the ice and Brian carried the puck across the Stephen Township blue- line before letting go a blistering slapshot that went in high to the glove side of the opposition net- minder. Puckstoppers Michael de Jong and Chris Lee shared their second shut-out in a row in this 1-0 High School in the rear parking lot on November 15 between 8:40 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. An Alpine radio/ cassette player, ser. #R90533257, and an Alpine amplifier Ser. #R911614ST were stolen from a 1984 Olds.
