Phone 523-4360 WI gives donations The December meeting of Lon­ desboro W.L was held at the hall on Wednesday, December 12 at 12 noon. The meeting opened with the Opening Ode, Mary Stewart Col­ lect, O Canada and Grace. Seven­ teen people enjoyed a delicious pot luck dinner. Helen Lawson introduced Rev. Paul Ross. He gave a Christmas message. He spoke on the meaning of an Indian Giver and thinking before buying gifts for other peo­ ple. Marjorie Anderson thanked Paul and presented him with a gift. Roll call was answered by “Where will you spend Christ­ mas’’. The minutes of the Novem­ ber meeting were read and approv­ ed. The Financial Statement was read by Helen Lawson. Correspon­ dence was read from Huron Day Centre. A thank you card was read from Dora Heard and one from Doris and Mervin,Batkin. Letters were read from London Area W.L, Survival Through Friendship House in Goderich and the Hunt­ ington Society. It was moved and carried to give donations to London W.L Ladies, Huron Day Care Centre, and Friendship House. Dora Shobbrook read a letter from former resident Vi Burns of London. Marjorie Anderson intro­ duced District President Mary Hunter of Belgrave who demon­ strated how to cover baskets and berry boxes. They would make nice gifts. Marjorie thanked her and presented her with a gift. Hullett employees Carol singing was held. For the January meeting at 2 p.m. bring a guest, a craft to show, and an article for a penny sale. A Christmas draw was held. 'Shis was won by Beryl Reid and Ramona Jamieson. Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, December 16 were Bert and Joanne Lyon. Ushers were Bert Lyon, Paul Jewitt, Lawrence and Richard Bergsma. The choir sang an anthem. The sermon topic was “Have a Joyful Christmas’’. There will be no Bible Study or Prayer Group until the New Year. Junior and Senior Youth Group will not meet until the New Year. Huronview Fellowship time will be held Thursday, December 20 at 1:15 p.m. Christmas Eve Service in the Church December 24 is at 7:30 p.m. Choir members arc asked to be at the church next Sunday at 10:30 sharp for final practice. Speaker tells of Africa trip 9 tables at euchre The December meeting of Londesboro U.C.W. was held at the Church on Monday evening, Dec. 10. Garbage pickup get pay increase At a special meeting of Hullett Council on November 29 a by-law was passed adjusting the wages of the road department, secretary and clerk-treasurer from January 1 to June 30. This increase is given in the middle of the regular negotiating period which is on July 1, yearly. Clerk Bev Shaddick said that the increase was keeping in line with other municipalities’ road depart­ ments. Road Superintendent Jim John­ ston and Clerk Bev Shaddick will receive anjn crease of $234 each, to be divided equally into 13 pay periods. Road employees, perma­ nent or part time office staff and part time plow operators will receive an increase of 20 cents per hour. At a regular meeting of Council on December 4, a by-law was passed which would provide for cleanout on the McCall Extension Drain, under the provisions of the Drainage Act for 1980. Permission was granted to Robert McClinchey to operate an inspection station at Part Lot 22, Cone. 14 as required by the Ministry of Consumer and Com­ mercial Affairs, subject to statutory regulations. A grant request for Ontario Senior Citizens Games District 29 was denied. Clare Vincent was nominated as director to the Roma Insurance Program and Ronald Gross was appointed as the voting member to ROMA Insurance annual meeting. Council approved an Ontario Home Renewal Loan for the amount of $7,500. Council instructed Road Superin­ tendent Jim Johnston to send letters to MTO and the OPP regarding parking along Highway 4 at the intersection of County Road 15. The W.l. Euchre was held at the Hall on Friday evening, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. There were nine tables of cards. Lucky winners were high lady, Dorothy Daer; ladies’ lone hands, June Fothergill; ladies’ low, Mary Longman; men’s high, Lloyd Appleby; men’s lone hands, Roy Krauter; men’s low, Reg Lawson. Dec. 29 Londesboro residents take note: regarding garbage collection, Christmas week instead of collec­ tion on Wednesday, Dec. 26 it will be held on Saturday, December 29 and regular collection on Wednes­ day, January 2, 1991. Rev. Ross led in prayer. All present enjoyed a delicious pot luck supper. Guest speaker, Miss Valerie Millson showed slides and told of her trip to Nigeria. This was very interesting and informative. She spent 10 months in Africa. She was Season’s thanked by Helen Lee and present­ ed with a gift. Members enjoyed singing Christmas Carols. High man was Lloyd Dale and high lady, Genevieve Allen. There will be no shuffleboard until January 9.
