Brussels Legion gives $500 to St. John ’s People BY SANDRA JOSLING A motion was sent to the floor seconded and passed at the general meeting of the Brussels Legion to donate to the following organiza­ tions: $500 to the St. John’s Ambulance for an adult maniquin; $50 to the March of Dimes; $50 to the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario and $50 to Survival Through Friendship House of Huron. On Saturday, December 9 Zone C-l team darts were held at the Legion. There were two teams from Brussels competing. The Brussels team of Cam Ross, Eric Ross, Bob Richardson, and Clint Emmerich placed third and will continue to the District finals in Galt March 9. Placing first was John Verway’s team from Blyth Branch 420. Results of the Monday night mixed Darts on Dec. 10 were Dave Wingham, Ont. JOHN W. High score for the ladies was Mary Ross and high score for the men was Ken Rut­ ledge. Darts are played every Monday night at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. On Dec. 12 Euchre night was held at the Brussels Legion. There were six tables playing. High lady was Kitty Rutledge. High man was Bill Echmier; most lone hands for the ladies, Dorothy Dilworth; men, Gord Nichol. Low lady went to Verna Tunney and low man, Bill Dobson. The next euchre night will be Wednesday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for the Brussels Legion New Year’s Even Dance. Contact the Legion or Murray’s Barber Shop for tickets. Brussels 23 attend WI meeting The Brussels Meals on Wheels were entertained by a Grade 6 class from Grey Central Public School on December 11 at a banquet at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Com­ munity Centre. They sang a variety of beautiful songs in two and three part harmony. The group was under the direction of Mrs. Mar­ garet Whitmore. The entertain- , were in favour, ment was greatly appreciated by all. Prior to the concert, guests enjoyed their annual turkey dinner. About 70 people were served and another 20 had Christmas dinner delivered to their home. Everyone is reminded that there will be an evening of carols and Christmas music at Brussels Unit­ ed Church on Wednesday, Decem­ ber 19 at 7:30. Ask your family and friends to join. WMS meets The Christmas meeting of Mel­ ville W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. Alvin Krauter. The President Helen Elliott opened the meeting with a poem “The Reasons for the Season’’ and prayer. Helen thanked Marguerite for the use of her home. The hymn “The race that long in darkness pined’’, was sung. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were given and approved. Following the treasurer’s report, Alice Brothers made a motion that a donation be made to the fire victims near Jamestown. A small institute sign was shown to see if any members were interested in purchasing one. All January 7 card party will have the same committee as the Decem­ ber card party that was cancelled. Roll call was answered by giving donations to shut-in boxes. A $3 donation was given by each mem­ ber for underprivileged children. Convenors Jane De Vries and Dorothy Steffler read Christmas poems. Kathy Bridge demonstrat­ ed how to do some crafts.
