UCWcelebrates Christmas I k- The basement of Duff’s United Church was decorated in the Christmas Theme by the Walton II unit of the United Church Women for the Christmas meeting on Wednesday evening, December 5. Margery Huether played a medly of Christmas Carols as everyone arrived and members were presen­ ted with Christmas corsages made by Maxine Houston. Several guests were present. Rev. Bonnie Cole Arnal said grace prior to a smorgasbord supper. A couple of films were shown while they were clearing the tables. Six small poinsettias were drawn for and three large centre­ pieces given away by Maxine Houston^ A vote of thanks was shown to her for flowers and corsages. Phyllis Mitchell, for Wal­ ton 1 unit, held a very impressive devotion, the “Advent Journey’’ with Marie Coutts, Marjory Fraser and Viola Kirkby assisting. Several Christmas hymns were sung followed with a sing-song of Christ­ mas Carols led by Gloria Wilbee with Marie McGavin as pianist. Offering was received, then Phyllis closed this part with prayer. Dorothy Sholdice presided for the business. Minutes were ap­ proved as read by Audrey Hack­ well. There was a large box of articles donated for Friendship House, Goderich. Dorothy reported on the discus­ sion at the recent official board Walton Compiled by Mrs. Betty McCall. The Junior choir sang them. Rev. Bonnie Cole Arnal read an advent letter from the Modera­ tor to the United Church for her message. Christmas hymns were accompanied by organist, Glenda Carter, Marion Godkin was pianist for the junior choir. A story presentation, “The Shopping Bag WI plans luncheon The Walton Women’s Institute will hold their noon luncheon on Wednesday, December 19. Plans have been made by the committee to have hot Irish Stew with tea biscuits, turnip, cabbage salad and pie for dessert ready to start by 11:30 a.rn. Everyone welcome. The regular Christmas meeting will follow the noon luncheon for all members. There will be a gift exchange. Clown” was given my Maxine Houston assisted by several young folk, real good actors. Brussels Legion News BY SANDRA JOSLING On Saturday, November 24 there was Zone Euchre in Lucknow Branch 309. Competing for the Brussels legion were the teams of Les Brewer and Gord Nichol, and Eric Ross and Ted Elliott. Although neither teams qualified for the District, a great time was had by all. Also on Nov. 24 there was fraternal team darts in Clinton Branch 140. Shooting for the Brussels Legion was the team of meeting. Several dates of coming events were announced with this Sunday, Dec. 9 being White Gift service and Sunday school concert in the afternoon. Leona McDonald gave the treasurer’s report and the U.C.W. budget was given by Marie McGavin. Members were remind­ ed to still save their tapes, soup labels and stamps and put them in the boxes in the basement of the church. The Christmas Eve Service will be held at Bluevale Church this Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The next U.C.W. meeting, with communica­ tions committee in charge, will be held Jan. 9 at 1:30 p.m., a change of time and day. Olene Dennis brought in the slate of officers for next year 1991. They will be installed at the church morning service Sunday, January 6.
