Phone 526-7589 ‘A Peaceful Christmas’ topic of minister’s sermon The Women’s Institute Christ­ mas pot luck dinner will be held on Thursday, December 13 at 12 noon at the Community Centre. Bring the Children’s Aid Society. Hos­ tesses will be Mrs. Leonard Archambault, Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. Evelyn Merrill. Rev. Paul Ross conducted the < morning service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organ­ ist and Nicole Middelkamp was pianist. The sanctuary was beautifully decorated for Advent and Christ­ mas. Rev. Ross gave the Call to Worship followed by the hymn ‘The Advent of Our God”. The children came to the front and the first Advent Candle, the candle of Hope was lit by Rachael Arthur and the second Advent Candle, the candle of Peace was lit by Michael Bakker. Rev. Ross gave the prayer of confession and assurance of par­ don. The hymn ”0 Come, O Come Emmanuel” was sung by Nicole Middelkamp, Jake Middelkamp, and Nancy Park with Bernice Gross as pianist. Rev. Ross read scrip­ tures from Isaiah II Peter and St. Mark, followed by hymn “Low How A Rose”. Rev. Ross’s sermon was “Have a Peaceful Christmas” followed by prayer chorus, “God is so good”. Rev. Ross gave the prayer of Thanksgiving and Concern and the Belgrave News Cindy and Kathleen Westerhout of Brampton spent the weekend with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bosman. Around 45 Edgar relatives gath­ ered at the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, Saturday, December 8 for their annual Christmas get-together. At 6:30 p.m. dinner was catered to by members of the Women’s Institute which was enjoyed by all. Following the dinner everyone took part in the Carol singing until Santa Claus arrived at 8 p.m. to help hand out gifts to everyone from the Christmas tree. Belgrave WMS discusses Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. The Offering was received by Greg Park and Larry Plaetzer and for the Sunday School brought forward by Laurel Campbell and Melissa Hanna and dedicated. The hymn "Jesus Came The Heven’s Adoring” was sung and Rev. Ross pronounced the Benediction an the choral response "Now Thank We All Our God” concluded the service. The Junior Youth Group will meet Thursday, December 13 at Paul’s for a Christmas party. Remember to bring some snacks and something for gift exchange. The area Ecumenical Christmas Service will be held Sunday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Blyth United Church. your husband or friend. Mrs. Garner Nicholson used the Christmas devotions in the Glad Tidings, with Mrs. Freda Scott and Mrs. Lottie Scott reading the scriptures from Luke 1. Mrs. Nicholson and Mrs. Cloakey read the reflections. Mrs. Nicholson gave the prayer. "O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, was sung. The roll call, showing seven present, was answered by each reading a Christmas story or poem. Mrs. Margaret Siertsema gave the secretary’s report and Mrs. Cloa­ key the treasurer’s report. Thirty- three sick and shut-in vists were recorded. Plans were made for events coming up. "Away in a Manger” was sung. Mrs. Agnes Youngblut read about Spiritual Fitness”. Mrs. Siertsema read a poem "An Ad­ vent Prayer”. Mrs. Lottie Scott read, "Just for Christmas”. Mrs. Nicholson closed the meet­ ing and the hostess served lunch. A social time was enjoyed.
