Crusaders lose to Pamerston, trounce Grand Valley On Saturday night the Brussels Crusaders played host to the Palmerston 81’s. The scoring started just past the five-minute mark with Brussels taking an early lead. Ken Cousins combined with Paul Montgomery to set up Brian Campbell for the goal. Palmerston came back just two minutes later to tie the game up at one apiece and that’s the way the first period ended. The 81 ’s took the lead early into the second period with a goal three minutes into the period. The Cru­ saders came back to tie the game up when Brian Campbell scored an unassisted goal. There was just 1:24 left in the period when Brussels regained the lead. Camp­ bell combined with Paul Robinson to set up Ken Cousins for the goal. The second period ended with Brussels leading 3-2. The third period was just a little over half over when the 81’s scored to tie the game. However Steve Fritz got the tieing goal of 5:50 on a pass from Marty Rutledge. The final score ended tied at two. Bulls outshot Mt. Forest 42-26 but had to settle for a single point. Sunday Brussels hosted Wing­ ham ironmen. Wingham hit the score sheet first as Scott McKay scored a short-handed goal at 15:01. The Bulls tied the score at 2:47 as Steve Vandendool scored from Brett Long. Second period action saw the Bulls get their first lead of the game as Marty Rutledge scored his 22nd goal of the year on a pass from Steve Fritz and Craig King. Wingham tied the score two minutes later on the power play as Jarret Henhoffer scored from Brandon Alviano and J. C. Hewitt. But that was as close as Wingham could come in this game as Jeff McKee scored a picture goal on regained the lead once gain a little over three minutes later when Troy Pocaluyko set up Brian Ten Pas for the goal. This, however was not to be the Crusaders night as Palmer­ ston scored two goals in less than a minute to tie and go ahead in the game. The game ended 5-4 in favour of Palmerston. Sunday night saw the Crusaders on the road to Grand Valley for a 7:30 game. Grand Valley took the lead three and a half minutes into the game. Brussels came back strong and tied the game up a minute later when Kevin Deitner and Troy Pocaluyko worked together to set up Brian Ten Pas for the goal. The Crusa­ ders went ahead seven minutes later when Jason Goodall scored on a play set up by Brian Campbell and Ken Cousins. Brussels added one more goal before the period ended, this time Cousins and Deitner combined to set up Camp­ bell for the score. The period ended a nice pass from Steve Fritz and Marty Rutledge at 6:21. The second period ended with the home team holding on to a one-goal lead. Fifty-four seconds into the third Steve Fritz scored on a pass from Marty Rutledge and Jeff McKee. The Bulls closed out the scoring with 2:49 left in the third as Bevin Flett biased a shot past Murray Foxton on a pass from Steve Fritz and Marty Rutledge. Although Wingham outshot the Bulls 29-28 Scott Thede played an excellent game in goal for the Bulls. Scott has been carrying the load for the Bulls right now as Jeff Roy is expected back in the Bulls lineup against Goderich Dec. 16. This weekend the Brussels Sprouts are having a mini practice with the Jr. C. Bulls before their game on Sunday against Grand Vailey. The Sprout fathers are cooking lunch for both the Sprouts and the Bulls. All this action starts at 11:00 Sunday. with the Crusaders leading 3-1. The second period was almost three minutes old when Brussels increased their lead to four when Dave Montgomery and Troy Poca­ luyko set up Kevin Deitner for the goal. The Crusaders made it a four-goal lead when Trov Pocaluv- ko and Dave Montgomery drew assists on Jason Goodall’s second goal of the game. Grand Valley then cut the lead by one before Brian Campbell scored his second of the game when he finished off a play set up by Ken Cousins and Mark Harding. Brussels then increased their Pee Wees shut-out Elma-Logan BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Legion Pee Wee’s only had one game last week when they hosted Elma-Logan on Monday, November 26. Goaltenders Chris Lee and Michael de Jong back- stopped the team to a 5-0 white­ wash. Blyth gave Elma-Logan every opportunity to take home a win until some third period fireworks. Henry Bos and Shawn Hakkers set up the game winner one and a half minutes into the contest as Benjie Hakkers scored from the slot while being checked to the ice. The play remained scrambly until Blyth put the game away midway through the third frame with three goals in one minute and eighteen seconds. Rvan Chamney lead again when Trev Pocaluyko and Jason Goodall set up Troy Pocaluyko for the goal. The second period ended with Brussels leading by a 7-2 score. The third period saw the Crusa­ ders increase their lead to six goals when Ken Cousins finished off a scoring play set up by Kevin Deitner and Brian Campbell. They then added to the lead two minutes later when Deitner and Troy Poca­ luyko drew assists on a goal by Dave Montgomery. Grand Valley cut the lead by one once again but the Crusaders got it right back just 30 seconds later when once again Deitner and Pocaluyko set Montg- ignited the three goal flurry with a power play goal assisted by Henry Bos and Brian McNichol. Brian McNichol then responded with two goals in less than one minute as Ryan Chamney and Henry Bos assisted on both. Henry Bos registered his fifth assist of the game with 1:31 left in the game as he and Brian McNichol Blyth skaters pass With the figure skating well on its way, Blyth Figure Skating students have been out working hard on their badges. As of November 30 those receiv­ ing badges were: Beginner Badge, gomery up for his second goal of the game. Brussels then added to their lead when Mark Harding deflected a pass by Ken Cousins for an eight-goal lead. The final goal of the night for Brussels was Troy Pocaluyko’s second of the game with Deitner and Montgomery drawing the assists on the play. The Valley secored one more goal to make the final score 12-4 in favour of the Crusaders. This weekend the Crusaders see action in the Drayton Tournament as they play their first game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against the Teeswater Falcons with their se­ cond game to be played on Sunday. set up Brad Anderson for the power play goal that sealed the Legion Pee Wees 5-0 win.
