Brussels Bulls still on top after weekend action Thursday the Bulls straightened up their defence with signing of a Hanover native Rob Pike. Rob played for Hanover for one and a half years and played for Listowel Jr. B. last season. Rob is a 19 year old with a left-handed shot and will wear No. 24 for the Bulls. Thwarted How do you stop a charging Bull? Knock him over. That’s what happened when a player from the Wingham Ironmen team tried to intercept a play during the first period action of the Bulls game in Brussels on Sunday. The home team was struggling in the beginning but came back to defeat Wingham. It was anything but a low scoring game as the Bulls won the game 13-7. Jeff McKee scored from Fritz and Rutledge at 19:33 of the first. Corey McKee scored at 14:25 with assists going to Paul Brophy and Brian Zabel. Walkerton got on the score board at 11:27. Steve Vandendool scored at 7:23 from Ron Strome. Jeff Jewitt scored with assists going to Greg McNevan and Shawn Chip­ chase at 5:55. Jamie Gibbings rounded out the scoring at 24 seconds on a pass from Brian Zabel. Ron Strome scored three minutes into the second period on a pass from Steve Vandendool. Newly-ac­ quired Rob Pike got his first goal as a Bull at 5:52 on a pass from Corey McKee. Craig King scored a power play goal at 4:36 with assists going to Jeff Jewitt and Joe Walker. Walkerton scored with 38 seconds left in the second to give the Bulls a 8 - 2 lead after two. Jeff McKee scored to open the third on a pass from Steve Fritz at 17:23. Walkerton scored three quick goals to close in on the Bulls. However Brussels got those three back in a hurry as Marty Rutledge scored on a pass from Brett Long at 11:36. Thirty-two seconds later Ron Strome scored on a pass from Steve Vandendool and Brett Long. Steven Sports Brussels Tykes defeat Bly th The first day of December found the Blyth Tykes playing a tough game of hockey against the Brus­ sels Tykes. Brussels opened the scoring with two quick goals soon answered by Blyth’s Matt Anderson. The end score of the game was Brussels 12, Blyth 4. Blyth goaltending duties were Vandendool scored at 10:11 from Brett Long. Walkerton grabbed two goals back, however it was too little, too late as Marty Rutledge rounded out the scoring on a pass from Jeff McKee and Rob Pike at 2:41 of the third. The final score was Brussels 13, Walkerton 7. Saturday saw the Bulls travel to Mt. Forest. The Bulls got the only goal of the first two periods as Marty Rutledge scored at 18:43 of the first on a pass from Steve Fritz. This game saw a lot of clutching and holding as both teams tried to get the upper hand. Bulls dominat­ ed play by outshooting Mt. Forest 32-18 but only had a one-goal lead. Mt. Forest came out in the third and tied the score at 14:43 and then took the lead at 7:43. It looked like Continued on page 16 shared by different members of the team.
