Phone 887-9487 Bible Soc. campaign a success The executive of the Belgrave Branch of the Bible Society wishes to thank the canvassers and those who contributed to a successful campaign. The amount collected this year is $1,233.00, a slight increase over last year. Mrs. Rob Roy, Christina and Emily of Peterborough, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cousins of Woodstock spent a few days with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson. Mr. Bert Johnston is a patient in the University Hospital, London. Belgrave news Visiting at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Procter. Belgrave, for a couple of days were Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Smithson of Downsview. Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Edgar of Petrolia spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. William Elston and on Sunday they called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Bake shop Belgrave Women’s Institute Hall was a busy place on Saturday morning for the Community Bake Sale. There was an excellent selection and many found it a good opportunity to get some Christmas baking done - the easy way. & Mrs. G. Bosman heads UCW Belgrave United Church Women held their general meeting, Nov. 22. The worship service “Keeping Advent” was presented by Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler, Mrs. Muriel Coultes and Mrs. George Michie. The speaker for the evening was Ross Procter who showed slides and told about a recent trip he had taken through Russia and China. The report of the nominating committee was given by Mrs. Robert Grasby and the officers for the next year will be as follows: Past President, Mrs. Ross Higgins; President, Mrs. Gordon Bosman; Vice-President, Mrs. James Hun­ ter; Treasurer, Mrs. Leslie Shaw; Stewardship and Finance, Mrs. Glenn Coultes; Secretary and Com­ munications, Mrs. Ross Anderson; Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Harold Vincent; Church and Society, Mrs. Norman and Mrs. Ab Cook; World Outreach, Mrs. William Coultes. The Christian Development comm­ ittee is Mrs. Clarence Yuill, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler, Mrs. John Roberts; in church services, Mrs. Mike Cottrill, Mrs. Laura John­ ston, Mrs. Jim Lamont; Social Committees, Mrs. John Campbell, Mrs. Florence McArter, Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mrs. Leslie Shaw, Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mrs. Robert Grasby, Mrs. Lome Campbell and Mrs. Leslie Vincent. Leadership Development is led by Mrs. Dorothy Logan; Archives, Mrs. Olive Bolt; Auditors, Mrs. Lloyd Michie, Mrs. Ronald Cook; Pianist, Mrs. George Johnston; Nominating Committee, Mrs. Har­ old Vincent, Mrs. George Procter, Mrs. Sam Pletch and Mrs. Ross Higgins. Donations were voted to be sent to the following organizations: Children’s Aid Society, Alcohol and Drug Concerns, Christian Resource Centre at Mitchell, Town and Country Homemakers, World Development and Relief Fund, General Fund of Knox United Church, Seeds for Africa and the Medical Electives program. Euchre Twelve tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, Wednes­ day, November 28. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Janisa Coultes; second high lady, Mrs. George Johnston; low lady, Mrs. Alvin Procter; novelty lady, Mrs. Lloyd Appleby; high man, Dennis Leddy; second high man, Jim Coultes; low man, Jack Taylor; novelty man, Harvey Edgar. There will be euchre again Wednesday, December 5 starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. A social time was enjoyed follow­ ing the meeting with lunch served by Mrs. George Michie and Mrs. Clarence Yuill.
