The Blyth Swinging Seniors met in the Blyth Memorial Hall on Nov. 28 and sat down to a delicious Christmas dinner which was cater­ ed by the Blyth Legion Auxiliary ladies. After dinner president John Hesselwood chaired the business meeting. It opened with 0 Canada and then several November birth- Blyth. People Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Longman, Mrs. Irene Waymouth all of Strat­ ford and Mrs. Mary Longman of Londesboro were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Longman and George. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Borland and Kim Borland and Randy Farr spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Chambers. There were 13 tables in play at the regular Monday, Nov. 26 euchre party at Memorial Hall. Ruth Sheills and Graeme Mc­ Dowell had the high scores. Eileen McClinchey and Leonard Shob- brook had the low scores. Albert Stevens and Kathy Bromley had the most lone hands. The special prize for those at the lucky table went to Beth Knox, Lloyd Appleby, Marjorie McDougall and Leonard Shobbrook. Charlene Kalin, 17 of Vancouver recently competed in the Medal Class Division of the Canadian Equestrian Team at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Charlene is the granddaughter of Lois Robin­ son Tassie who was born in Blyth and lived here until 1942 when she joined the army. She now resides with her husband Bob Tassie in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. Charlene competed in a class of eight riders judged by Ian Miller, the great Canadian equestrian. She placed second. There were five tables at the lost heir card party at Memorial Hall Nov. 28. High scores were recorded by Gayle Poore and Charlie Smith. Margaret Nesbit and Wilfred Shortreed had the low scores. The special prize went to Wilfred Shortreed. days were recorded and Happy Birthday was sung to Graeme McDowell, Eleanor Switzer, Annie White, Catherine Caldwell and John Blake. John reminded every­ one of the birthday party Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at Huron view. The Seniors from Blyth will supply the lunch and the program. It was decided after consulting with the Village Council Blyth would not enter into the “Wheels Away Program"’, as the majority of local seniors go to Clinton. The next meeting will be Jan. 23 at which time Londesboro Seniors will be invited. It will begin with dessert at 1 p.m. The Christmas Concert from Blyth Public School will be held on Dec. 19 at 1:30. This is a rehearsal and all seniors are invited. Mary Walden introduced the program group who were Millar Richmond, Lloyd Walden, Harve McDowell and Jim Lawrie with Ella Richmond at the piano. They entertained with some lively Christmas music and closed with “We Wish you a Merry Christ­ mas.” The draw for the door prizes followed. These were donated by the Legion Auxiliary. They went to Alberta Stevens, Ella Richmond, Janet Lawrie, Mary Walden, Bill Craig, Alvin Snell, Eleanor Swit­ zer, Phyllis Boak and John Blake. Crokinole, Euchre and Lost Heir followed and the winners were: crokinole, Vera Hesselwood; euchre, high lady, Lloyd Walden (playing as a woman); low lady, Nora Kelly; high man, Harvey Craig; low man, Lottie McLellan (playing as a man); lost heir, high lady, Gene Snell; high man, Har­ vey McDowell; low lady, Feme Howatt; low man, Ken Jackson. These prizes were also donated by the Legion Ladies. Children present pageant at church Greeting the congregation on the First Advent Sunday at Blyth United Church were Terry and Barb Richmond. Rev. Ramirez opened the service with the lighting of the purple candle, the candle that symbolizes humility. The church was colour­ fully decorated for Christmas in evergreen garlands and red bows by the Sunshine Unit and Ken Hamm. Special thanks to Earl and Shirley Fyfe for donating the Christmas tree. The cost is absorbed through Ontario Hydro Energy Efficient Programs. Blyth Building Inspector Paul Josling is contacting the Blyth Hydro Electric Customers who have an electrically heated hot water tank to install the energy saving blanket. If for some reason you have not been contacted by mid-December, please contact the Blyth P.U.C. Office - 523-4545. All vehicles must be removed from village streets and roadways of the municipality between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Violators will be prosecuted or will be required to bear the cost of having their vehicle towed away. The owner of any such parked vehicle will be liable for any damage to the said vehicle or to any village snow removal equipment.
