CAMERON McMILLAN BRUSSELS UNITED AND ETHEL UNITED CHURCH What is your talent? Are you a baseball player or a hockey star? As you good at cooking or at handcrafts? Do you excel as a student, or a farmer or a worker in business? Do you have social skills that make you very popular? Everybody has some talents, and our talents all are different. Jesus once told a story about three people who each were gifted with different talents. One had five talents, another two talents and the third one talent. The five and two talent persons put their talents to work and achieved some outstand ing results. They ended up with twice as much as they started out with. The five talent person had 10 talents and the two talent person four talents. Jesus spoke most approvingly of the work that they did. They proved that they were hard working, ambitious, responsible people. They were granted even more responsibilities on the basis of the good work that they did. The third person hid his talent in the ground. He acted as if it did not exist and did absolutely nothing with it. When judgement day came along, he could produce absolutely nothing extra to show in the way of improvements that he had made to this world. Jesus severely condemned this man who made absolutely no use of the talent he was given. His one talent was taken away from him and given to the man who had produced ten talents. He was sent away into outer darkness where all he could do was cry and grind his Bluevale church setting for autumn wedding teeth in sorrow for the mistake that he had made. Talents are meant to be used, not hidden. Put them on a lampstand where everyone can see them and gain benefit from them. Don’t hide them under a bushel basket where nobody will know that they exist. The amazing thing is that the more we practise and make use of our talents, the better we become, the more efficient and expert we become at putting our talents to use. If you put your talent on a shelf and never use it, some day it will deteriorate and dry up and Mitchell and Deborah Braun BRAUN - JOHNSTON Bluevale United Church was the setting for the autumn wedding of Mitchell David Braun and Deborah Ann Johnston on September 22, 1990. Since returning they are living at RR 2, Bluevale. eventually you will find that you are completely unable to use it at all. Use your talent. Make your contribution to building a better world. If you do not use it, you will find that eventually you are unable to use it at all. You and the world are a poorer place because of your unused talent. Read Matthew 25: 14-30.
