Soc.meeting The November Horticulture Society meeting was held at the Community Centre on Wednesday, November 14 with a good atten­ dance. The president Mrs. Don Cartwright welcomed all and “O Canada’’ was sung with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. The meeting was turned over to Anne Vincent and Shirley Archam- bault who were in charge. Anne read a reading and had a contest and the prize went to the guest of the evening Mr. George Sutton of Goderich. Shirley Archambault introduced Mr. Sutton and the topic was “Butterflies of the World’’. He collected butterflies as a hobby. He said he started when his six year old son and he would take walks and then he left it for awhile and then got really interested in that hobby. He and his wife travel a lot to get these butterflies. He is a collector and also trades with others. He had a beautiful display of the different butterflies. He has one from Ecuador which had come in on the bananas at Zehrs store. He stated a silk moth had no mouth. He stated he used no preservative to keep these butter­ flies in their boxes, sometimes a little crushed moth ball. He showed us a brooch that was made in 1888 and was passed down to his wife and he said other jewellery could be made also from butterflies. He has 36 drawers full and has 7,000 mounted. Phone 526-7589 WMS hears special readings The November meeting of the Auburn Presbyterian W.M.S. was held at the home of Erma Cart­ wright. The president Martha Daer gave the Call to Worship. The devotional period was taken by Lillian Lether- land. -The scripture portion was taken from St. Luke which was read alternately. The meditation was entitled “The Wonder of it all’’, followed by prayer. Carol Daer had charge of the Study. She read two articles en­ titled “Where hang the trophies’’ and “Remembrance Day’’. Marion Haggitt gave a reading entitled “In Times Like These”. The Christmas meeting will be held at the home of Frances Clark. There were six tables in play at the euchre party held on Tuesday evening, November 13 at the Community Centre. Prizes went to: high lady, Carol Daer: low lady, Evelyn Christian­ son; high man, Carman Brindley; low man, Don Lamont; novelty, Kathleen Glenn. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at the Community Centre at 8 p.m. People Word has been received death of Mrs. Alp, widow late Dr. W. R. Anne Vincent thanked him and presented him with a gift. The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting and the treasur­ er, Elliott Lapp gave the financial statement. The Nativity Scene that was beautifully painted by Joyce Bean was on display and will be soon placed in its usual winter spot. Queen and Grace were sung and Mrs. Ethel Ball, Mrs. Ruth Jardin and Mrs. Phyllis Rodger had a delicious lunch for us and a social time was enjoyed. Hullett accepts tenders Hullett Township Council accept­ ed the tender of Lavis Construction at its meeting on November 6 for the supplying and placing of HL4 Hot Mix Asphalt at $40 per ton at the bridge approaches. The proposal of Don Nott for blowing snow in the streets of Alma for $35 an hour and of Bill Roy for snowblowing on sideroad 20/21, Cone. 9 for $27 per hour was accepted. Council also accepted the tile drain petition from Jack DeJong. Gamsby and Mannerow Ltd. were named as the engineers. Road Superintendent Jim John­ ston was authorized to purchase four grader tires at the best quote for the best quality. A $35 donation was made to the Blyth and Clinton Legion Poppy fund. Council passed a by-law impos­ ing special drainage rates upon land where money has been bor­ rowed under the tile drainage act, in the amount of $13,000. Clerk Bev Shaddick was instruct­ ed to apply for a 1991-92 Pride Grant for Londesboro.
