Brussels PeeWees trounce Mitchell 6-1 Got it A Drayton player helps his goaltender foil a chance by an unidentified Brussels Crusader player during a game Saturday night in Brussels. Unfortunately too little of the action was around the Drayton net and too much around the Crusaders net as the home team was pummelled 12-6. The Brussesl Pee Wees travelled to Mitchell on Saturday and upset the home team by a score of six to one. Shawn Nicholson led the scoring in the final two minutes of the first period. He was assisted by Dave Lewington and Jeff Lewington. The Mitchell team came back in the second period to tie the score, then Shawn once again slid the puck past the Mitchell goalie off a play by Randy Beuerman. With only a minute and a half left in the second period Mike Dauphin scored off Dave Lewington, giving the Brus­ sels team a two goal lead. In the third period the Brussels team put on a strong offensive scoring three goals. Jamie Smith led the attack scoring off Brad Mulvey and Shane Wilson. The second goal of the third period was scored by Dave Lewington, with assists going to Troy Williams and Tom Pearson. Then with just a little under three minutes left in the game, Randy Beuermann widened the margin off a play by Trevor Machan ending the scoring for the game. Crusaders tie Milverton,lose to Drayton NORTH HURON GARDENS ETHEL NOVEMBER 19 9 to 9 On Friday night the Crusaders travelled to Milverton to play the 4-Wheel Drives. The first period was scoreless but with lots of end-to-end action with both teams’ goaltenders mak­ ing several tough saves to keep the game tied at zero. The second period was barely 30 seconds old when Dan Hill and Darren Foerter combined to set up Mark Leslie for the goal. Brussels increased their lead to two goals when Jamie Robinson finished off a play set up by Dave Wheeler and Dan Hill. The second period ended with the Crusaders holding a 2-0 lead. The third period was 16 seconds old when Milverton cut the lead to one when Matt Carter deflected a Jeff Buchanan shot for the goal. It Brussels Bulls stomp Ironmen on a pass from Corey and Jamie Gibbings at power play marker. Bulls power play goal came off the Saturday the Brussels Bulls tra­ velled to Grand Valley. The first place Bulls/showed why they are in first place as they destroyed Grand Valley 9-0. First period action saw Brett Long score at 1:08 from Jeff McKee and Bevin Flett. Marty Rutledge scored McKee 4:49, a second the stick of Jeff McKee from Steve Fritz and Marty Rutledge at 14:13 to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead at the end of one. Second period action saw Paul Brophy score a short-handed goal at 8:02. Corey McKee scored on a pass from Shawn Chipchase and Steve Vandendool at 10:33. Steve Blyth PeeWees win 2, lose 1 Blyth Pee Wee B started season right by defeating Huron Park 4-3. Goal scorers were Chris Stewart and Chad Haggitt with two goals apiece. Assists went to Jason McDougall, two, Rob Johnston and Ben Craig one apiece. Blyth lost its second game of the season to Bayfield 5-0. The boys played very good hockey but could­ n’t stop the strong Bayfield team. Chris Bromley played a great game between the pipes. Blyth defeated Goderich Signal- Star 5-4. It proved to be a very close and exciting game. Milverton then took the lead five minutes after that when Carter scored the go ahead goal. The Crusaders came back to tie the game when Kyle Reading deflected a shot from Jeff Espen- sen with Mark Leslie drawing the other assist on the play. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. On Saturday the Crusaders were at home to play host to Drayton. Drayton opened the scoring in the first minute of play. Brussels tied the score four minutes later when David Montgomery and Brian Campbell combined to set up Jason Goodall for the goal. Drayton, however, came back Fritz rounded out the scoring of the second period on a pass from Jeff McKee and Marty Rutledge at 11:05. Corey McKee started the scoring at 8:07 of the third with a short-handed goal. Marty Rutledge scored his second goal of the game at 17:09 from Jeff Douglas and Bevin Flett. The final goal of the game came off the stick of newly acquired Jeff Douglas from Brian Zabel and Steve Mcihie at 12:44 a power-play marker. Jeff Roy turned aside 20 shots to record his second shut-out of the year. Sunday’s game was hyped up as the second loss of the year for the Bulls as Wingham was apparently going to walk all over the Bulls. However, this was not the case as Brussels opened the scoring at 13:42 of the first and never looked back as Marty Rutledge scored an unassisted goal. Paul Brophy notched the second Bulls’ goal on a nice three-way passing play from Corey McKee and Brett Martin at 12:33. The first period ended 2-0 for the Bulls. The Bulls came out flying in the second as Ron Strome scored from Brett Long and Jeff Douglas at 18:22. Ten seconds later, Corey McKee scored an unassisted goal. Stevp Fritz scored a goal on a penalty shot^t 15:35. Marty Rutledge scored at 11:05 from Fritz and Gibbings. Highly-talented rookie Jeff McKee scored at 4:03 on a picture passing play from Steve Fritz and Marty Rutledge. Jeff Jewitt scored at 18:17 of the third on a pass from Shawn with five straight goals to take a 6-1 lead. The Crusaders added one more before the end of the period when Jamie Robinson finished off a play set up by Kevin Deitner and Dave Wheeler. The first period ended with Drayton holding a 6-2 lead. Brussels came out in the second and -cut the lead by one when Wheeler and Robinson worked together to set up Deitner for the score. Two minutes later the Crusa­ ders cut the lead to a two-goal margin when Goodall and Camp­ bell set up Montgomery for the goal. The second period ended with Drayton leading 6-4. Drayton started the third period scoring when they added three goals in the first minutes of the period. Brussels cut the lead by one Chipchase. Wingham finally got on the score sheet at 14:22 as Larry Hunking scored on a pass from J. C. Hewitt and Dan McDougall. Marty Rutledge completed his hat-trick at 9:20 on a pass from Steve Fritz. Wingham closed out the scoring with 11 seconds left as J. C. Hewitt scored from Brent Kavanoh to give the Bulls a 9-2 victory. Friday night come out and meet the first place Bulls at the B.M. & G. Sunday, the Bulls will host the Action Sabres in the first Brussels’ Minor Hockey game. All minor hockey players admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The Crusaders then cut into the lead again when Jason Goodall scored his second of the game with Rob Cardiff drawing the assist on the play. But that was as close as they got as Drayton added three more goals to make the final score of the game 12-6 for Drayton. The Crusaders’ next action will be Friday night when they travel to Wellesley for an 8:30 game.
