Phone 526-7589 Golden moment Tom and Eppie Lawrence of Auburn will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 20 but a full house of well-wishers attended a dance at the Auburn Hall Saturday night to wish them congratulations on the milestone. The couple married 50 years ago in Blyth. Clowns win prizes at Walkerbum Club Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McIntosh and Mr. and Mrs. D. Goffin and Laura, all of London visited with Mrs. Frances Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp spent several days recently visiting with her sister Mrs. R. C. Templer, Rochester and Mrs. B. Jenkins and Miss Laura Jenkins of New Mexico who were also visiting there. On their way home Mr. and Mrs. Lapp also visited Miss Hazel Elliott in Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. W. Wood in Brampton. Yearly dues were received from members present and Mrs. J. Verwey, Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs.?1 S. Ball gave their birthday money. Members signed cards for Mrs. Keith Lapp and Mrs. B. Thomson. The draw was won by Mrs. L. Penfound. It was moved and seconded that shower gifts be given to families of active members only. The roll call for the November meeting will be mitts, colouring books, crayons, etc. for the Children’s Aid. There was a sale of miscellane­ ous articles which was quite suc­ cessful. The meeting closed with a delicious lunch served by the hostesses Mrs. D. Collins and Mrs. Len Archambault. Silver Tops hold pot luck The Silver Tops dinner will be held at the Community Centre on Wednesday, November 21 at 12 noon. The guest speaker will be Mr. Percy Blundell of Goderich. The Walkerburn Club Hallo­ we’en meeting was held Tuesday evening, October 30 at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Joe Verwey’s home. Members came in costumes and three clowns were the winners and received gifts. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 in the afternoon at the home of Mrs. Len Archam­ bault. Program committee is Mrs. Keith Lapp and Mrs. S. Ball while lunch will be looked after by Mrs. J. Huizinga and Mrs. L. Penfound. The November meeting of the Women’s Institute will be held in the Community Centre on Thurs­ day, November 15. The topic will be education and cultural activties, by Mrs. Don Cartwright. The roll call is “If you were 16 again what career would you choose’’. Hostesses will be Mar­ jorie McDougall, Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs. Tom Haggitt. 10 join Missionary Church Thanksgiving Sunday was a day of great rejoicing at Huron Chapel Missionary Church, Auburn when 10 members were received increas­ ing the membership by 66 per cent. Debbie Newcomb and Jeff Bow­ man were received by transfer from other evangelical churches. Adults received by profession of faith were John and Helen Baumbach, Roger Newcomb and Gary and Karen Palmer. Young people received by pro­ fession of faith were Jason Baan, Steve Campbell and Lori Rodges. Pastor Carne preached appropri­ ately on the theme, “Bringing Home The Harvest.” In the even­ ing service about 130 people were present to hear the music ministry of “The Watchmen”. Euchre results There were five tables in play at the euchre party at the Community Centre on Tuesday, November 6. Prizes went to: high man, Harold McClinchey; low man, Frances Clark (playing as man); high lady, Mary Shobbrook; low lady, Lillian Letherland; novelty, Tom Hallam. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at the Community Centre at 8 p.m.Couple marks 50th Tom Lawrence and Eppie Hag- gitt were married at Blyth Anglican rectory by Rev. Weeks on Novem- ber 20, 1940 and on Saturday evening a reception was held at Auburn in honour of this couple’s golden anniversary. Mr. Lawrence was the son of George and Mary Lawrence of Hullett Township and Mrs. Law- rence was born in Blyth, the daughter of Albert and Carrie Haggitt. The couple was attended at their marriage by the groom’s sister, Betty Johnston and the bride’s brother, George Haggitt. Following the ceremony, they tra- veiled to Brantford for a short honeymoon before returning to farm on the Lawrence family farm in Hullett. ^fl The couple remained there until seven years ago when they retired to Auburn, where they now spend IflflBn their time relaxing and enjoying J life, Mrs. Lawrence says. Her jl husband passes time gardening jfl and also keeps pigeons and chick- jfl ens, while she knits. The Lawrences have four daugh- ^B ters, all of whom live in the area. fl They are: Madeline Kerr of Nile; fl Audrey Rutledge of Auburn; Irene Dickey of RR 3, Auburn and Mary Smith of Dungannon.
