THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1990. PAGE 3. Blyth People Blyth actress Laurel Paetz opens Nov. 15 in the flew play “Sisters” at Prairie Theatre Exchange in Winnipeg. Those who won’t get a chance to see the play live will get a chance to see Ms. Paetz’s work on television in the near future. The play, written by Wendy Lili, will be videotaped in December as part of the Stage on Screen series of Primedia, a commercial film com­ pany. Other plays in the series include Blyth Festival’s “Local Talent” and Dan Needles “Letter from Wingfield Farm”. Convenors were Marie But­ ton and Irene Schultz. Dave Button and John Green very capably showed members how a beef was cut up, different cuts and how fat and bone are cut out. The regular meeting followed at President Jean Nethery’s home. Isabelle Craig is to attend the London Area Convention. Lenora Davidson and Jean Nethery report­ ed on the rally held in Belgrave. Isabelle Craig reported on their lovely evening held in St. Helens for their 85th anniversary. On November 2, Blyth W.l. met in the Memorial Hall with 11 members and one guest. The meeting opened with Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada. Isabelle Craig, convenor of Citi­ zenship and Legislation had as her guest speaker, Marlene Roberton, Public Health Nurse for Huron County. Marlene has been serving this area for 26 years. She outlined their programs and services avail­ able to us through the Health Unit. She was presented with a W.L cookbook. Isabelle Craig and Jean Nethery reported on the 76th Annual Con­ vention held in Exeter, Oct. 11. It was noted that one in four Cana­ dians are illiterate so be sure to read to your children. It was moved by Lenora David­ Blyth UCW remembers The Sunshine Unit of the Blyth U.C.W. met Nov. 8 in the church parlour. Alma Madill and Pat Sparling were in charge of the devotions. As it was close to Remembrance Day they chose that as their theme. Two hymns were sung “Onward Chris­ tian Soldiers” and “Stand up, Stand up for Jesus”. Ella Rich­ mond presided at the piano. Pat gave a short story on the life of Colonel John McCrae and about his writing the poem “In Flanders Fields”. Alma read the scripture choosing some verses from Psalm 46 and followed with a reading on “Remembrance”. Pat closed with prayer and a poem on Armistace. son, seconded by Isabelle, to donate $20 to the poppy fund. Plans were made for the Christmas dinner Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. A turkey has been purchased and other members are to supply pot luck. The guest speaker for this meet­ ing will be Barb Middegaal from Bluewater Centre, the 4-H girls will be invited, also any interested persons. Roll call is “Advice to a teenager”. Written by a student from Walker­ ton High School who had won first prize for it from the Legion. Marie Toll was in charge of the study, and gave a very interesting and informative talk on the “Rain Forests”. She gave some quotes of David Suzuki who is seen on the popular T.V. show “The Nature of Things”. She said it is quite frightening to hear about these rain forests being so ruthlessly destroy­ ed, causing hardship and starva­ tion for the natives living there. Many of these native plants are used in medicine. There were divisions for both Oldtimers and Industrial teams in the tournament. -t1 .
