Blyth Pee Wees win 2, tie 1, lose 1 in exhibition games BY RUSTY BLADES Once again the hockey season is upon us as we check the standings and find the Leafs in last place. Ryan Chamney chipped in with two goals and two assists and Brad Anderson also notched two goals while recording a single assist. Brian Marks and Michael Salverda each had a goal and an assist with single goals credited to Jason Rutledge and Peter Craig. Just about every skater got in on the scoring parade as Jonathan Collins added three assists, Benjie Hakkers contributed two assists with single assists going to Rob Johnston, Tim Cowan, Greg Toll and Christopher Howson. Blyth played their first game at home on October 29 as they lost a tight checking game to Ripley 3-2. Greg Toll and Jason Rutledge set up Ryan Chamney for Blyth’s first goal in the first period but Ripley tied the game in the second period with a power play marker. Ryan Chamney gave Blyth the lead once again early in the third as his short-handed effort was assist ed by linemate Jason Rutledge. However, Ripley scored two late goals, the last one on a power play, to hand Blyth their first loss of the year. This four game exhibition series was good preparation as the team opened their regular season in Brussels on Friday, November 2. Brussels opened the scoring with a power play goal early in the game but Blyth stormed back with the final six goals of the game, with three power play markers of their own, as they won game number one 6-1. Jason Rutledge counted two goals for the visitors as did Peter Craig. Brad Anderson tallied one goal while Brian McNichol had a goal and two assists. Henry Bos and Ryan Chamney each had two assists while Michael Salverda, Christopher Howson, Benjie Hak kers and Greg Toll added single assists. With the season underway, an invitation is extended to those who would like to see some entertaining hockey this winter. All the minor hockey players in Blyth can hardly wait to strut their stuff in front of family, friends and hockey fans everywhere. The Blyth Pee Wee Rep team has home games sche duled every o’clock.
