the Blyth Public Utilities Commis
sion.
In the coming weeks Paul Josling
will be visiting village homes to
wrap electrical hot water heaters
and water pipes with insulation in
order to cut Hydro use. The service
is free of charge to home owners.
Ontario Hydro is picking up the tab
for the project.
The village has also received an
energy conservation grant that will
see changes at the Blyth and
District Community Centre. The
project will see additional insula
tion and steel siding put along the
south side of the arena and on the
west side of the community centre
and arena. New windows will be
installed in the community centre.
Councillor Dave Lee reported the
community centre board has pur
chased a new tractor for flooding
ice in the arena and has already
raised $10,000 in pledges.
Councillors discussed the vill
age’s participation in the Develop
ment Steering Committee for Cen
tral Huron. Councillor Shirley Fyfe
and Clerk-treasurer Helen Grubb
have been attending meetings of
the group with representatives
from other central municipalities in
the county. The group, along with
similar groups in other parts of the
county, is looking at ways to
promote economic growth in the
county.
Mrs. Grubb said there is discus
sion about staffing for the project
and whether there should be one
person promoting development
working at the county level and
co-ordinating with each of the
groups. Councillors felt that each of
the groups couldn’t afford to
maintain its own development
staff.

There was a good attendance at
the 125th anniversary of Knox
Presbyterian Church, Cranbrook on
October 21.
Reverend Rodger McEachern
was guest minister and his sermon
“The Supreme Charge’’ was both
enlightening and entertaining.
A quartet from Atwood, Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Horton, and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Smith provided spe
cial music which was greatly enjoy
ed.
Altogether it was a rewarding
service. Lunch was served.
