Awards were for third place for best special section in the under 6,500 circulation category. Brussels Lois and Bush Wittard received tragic news Sunday that their two grandchildren had been burned to death in a fire in the family’s townhouse in Carleton Place near Ottawa. Brandon, 6 and Colin, 10 were killed in the blaze and their father Fred is in Ottawa Civic Hospital 3 join Morningstar Lodge The regular meeting of Morning- Star Rebekah Lodge was held on October 23 with Noble Grand Sister Mary Lowe presiding. At this meeting four officers unable to attend the last meeting were installed into their offices by Sis. Jean Bridge, Past District Deputy Pres, assisted by Sis. Barbara McCutcheon, Deputy Mar­ shall. Four Sisters were present from Seaforth and Br. Mel McCut­ cheon, District Deputy Grand Mas- ster of Huron Dist. No. 8. The Rebekah Degree was con­ ferred on three new members: Sis. Laura Barbour, Sis. Mary Stretton, Sis. Lorraine Edwards. Sis. Joan Bernard, Treasurer, reported that the Variety Fair was again successful. The first joint card party with the Oddfellows will be held on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. in the Lodge Hall. Donations were made to the Brussels Santa Claus Parade Committee and the Children’s Aid Notice to V Brussels Residents In order to encourage residents not to burn leaves, there will be a special pickup of bagged leaves on Monday, November 5. Please have bags set at the curb by 8:00 a.m. Monday morning. Council requests that leaves not be burnt on the pavement or sidewalks. Fred Whittard thought the children were safely out of the house but apparently they some­ how re-entered the house and were caught by the smoke and flames. Lois and Bush Whittard will attend the funeral Wednesday in Carleton Place. On Sunday, Oct. 21 Mr. and Mrs. Glenn McKercher attended the 1990 fall convocation at the University of Windsor where their daughter Mrs. Ann Larsen of Sarnia received her masters of education degree. Afterwards they were guests at a family dinner at the Edison Inn, Port Huron. of Huron County. At the next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13, Sis. Pat Frayne, Vice-Pres. of the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario will visit Brussels with Goderich Lodge visiting also. Guild meets The monthly meeting of Melville Presbyterian Guild was held Octo­ ber 16 at 8 p.m. in the church parlour. Thelma Cardiff opened the meet­ ing with a reading “Let us praise the Lord” followed by hymn “Let us sing of a wonderful love’’. The scripture taken from Genesis, chapter 8, verses 13-22 was read in unison. Thelma gave a very inter­ esting topic on ‘Thanksgiving’ which was followed by prayer. Hymn “Come, ye thankful people, come" was then sung. Jeanne Ireland spoke on her trip to Oberammergan. A Brussels man was fined $800 after pleading guilty in provincial court in Wingham Wednesday to two counts of possession of stolen property. Thomas D. Bodfield of Turnberry St., Brussels pleaded guilty to having in his possession two fire­ arms stolen earlier in break-ins in Grey county. The court was told on October 1 or 2 last year break and entries took place at two cottages at Bell’s Lake with several items including the two weapons in question taken. On March 28 Wingham O.P.P. re­ covered a rifle and a shotgun, worth $300 from Mr. Bodfield’s home. Defence attorney Michael Don­ nelly said Mr. Bodfield denied any involvement in the original crimes. The police investigation centred on two other individuals and one of the individuals took the guns to Mr. Bodfield for safekeeping after his Electricity rate to increase 8.6% in 91 Ontario Hydro’s electricity prices will increase an average of 8.6 per cent next year, Robert Franklin, Hydro’s President and Chief Exe­ cutive Officer, announced recently. “I said at the beginning of our rate review process last spring that Hydro would be unable to keep the 1991 increase in line with previous increases,’’ Franklin said.
