Knox Presbyterian Church, Cranbrook, will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sunday, October 21, at eleven o’clock with guest minister Rev. Rodger McEachern, Shakespeare. Lunch will be served following the service. PEOPLE Joanne Knight and friend Wel­ don Black from St. John N.B. spent Thanksgiving with her parents, Jack and Donna Knight. The Foresters have planned several euchres, the first one is this Friday night, October 19 at 8:30 in the Community Centre. Ladies please bring lunch. W.M.S. MEETS The October meeting of the W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. Leslie Knight. Eleven mem­ bers and three visitors attended. Yvonne presided for the opening exercises and followed the Thanks­ giving theme. A reading “Bless the Lord, O My Soul’’ was given. The Presbyterial visitors, Mrs. Floyd Willows, of Stratford, was accompanied by Bernice (Green) Richards and Jean Isbister which made a most inter­ esting meeting. The hymn “We Plough the Fields and Scatter’’ was sung. Scripture readings from Psalm 107 and Psalm 105 were read in unison followed by a meditation and prayer. “The Sounds of Thanksgiving Day” was read prior to singing “Come Ye Thankful People, Come”. The president, Mrs. Stuart Stevenson conducted the business when the minutes and treasurer’s report were given. Roll call was “Thanksgiving”. Cards and visits were recorded. One member had a birthday. Bernice (Green) Richards gave a most interesting and informative talk on missionary work in Costa Rica where Mrs. (Olive) Hugh Richards, formerly of Ethel, has been working for 35 years. The country is small, Ontario is 27 times as large. There the people move from the country to the cities. The temperature is between 70° - 90° the year round. She showed slides assisted by Miss Isbister. A book of interesting pictures was passed around for viewing. She gave members a good idea of a day in the life of a missionary with the many demands for help in various ways. “The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended” was sung with Madalene Steiss as pianist. All joined in the Mizpah Benediction and lunch followed served by Freda Crawford and Lois Hart. The ladies made plans for the lunch to follow the anniversary service next Sunday, October 21. McKillop Council accepted the snow removal tender of Machan Construction Ltd. at its meeting on October 2. The rate is set at $49 per hour from December 1 of this year to March 31. Standby time is to be paid at the daily rate of $24. Road Superintendent Wayne Dolmage received authorization for the hiring of Lavis Construction Company Ltd. to asphalt sideroad 20, north from Highway 8 for a total of 1,600 feet at $38 per ton. Council supported the resolution from Clinton objecting to Canada Post Corporation’s reduction in the number of street letter boxes and the early closing time of 5 p.m. A motion was made to hire Business Computer Systems for the preparation of both interim and final municipal tax notices for 1991. Council authorized Clerk Marion McClure to attend the Municipal Freedom of Information and Pri­ vacy Act seminar on October 16 at 8 tables in play at Blyth euchre Euchre was held at Memorial Hall on Monday, October 8. There were eight tables in play. Winners were: highlady, Ruth Shiells; high man, Harvey Sillib; low lady, Bernice Brown; low man, Ernie Brown; ladies’ lone hands, Lillian Appleby; men’s lone hands, Jane Giousher (playing as a man); and special, Clara Rinn. The next euchre party will be on Monday, October 15 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Conestoga College in Cambridge and the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers zone meet­ ing on October 18. The resolution of Tucker smith Township requesting that the Aus- able-Bayfield Conservation Author­ ity hold their 1991 budget to a five per cent increase was endorsed by Council. A tax adjustment for Bertha Love in the amount of $4,000 was approved under the Municipal Act. A public meeting was held concerning the proposed zoning amendment of Ronald and Gloria Riley of Part Lot 28, Cone. 1. After the meeting certain changes were made to the proposed by-law following which Council voted that these changes were such that no further notice would be given regarding the proposal.
