THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1990. PAGE 21. Belgrave hosts 39th Huron West District annual Huron West District was host to Huron County’s 39th Women’s Institute Rally at Belgrave W.I. Hall on Monday, October 1. Registration, at 9:30 a.m., was in charge of Maitland Branch with approximately 80 in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 10 by President Mary Hunter. Norma Moore welcomed everyone. Greetings were extended by Huron East President Mrs. Mar garet McMahan and Huron South Mrs. Marion Dougall. Mrs. Laurine McIntosh, president of London Area brought greetings and a short message, and invited everyone to the 76th Annual Convention to be held October 11, 1990 at South Huron Recreational Centre, Exe ter. The minutes of 1989 Rally were read by secretary Mrs. Helen MacKenzie. Mr. Tom Knight, newly-appointed director of Child ren’s Aid Society at Goderich spoke. A financial statement of the W.I. Bursary fund was presented. Discussion followed. The Historical Society of Huron County report was given by Mrs. Sally Leitch of Goderich, who announced the annual dinner meet ing to be held October 11 at Brucefield United Church. President Mary Hunter gave a reading entitled “A Retired Farm er’s Will”. Jane Muegge R.O.S., reminded members of Agri-food and reported on 4H activities and said 4H is in the school system of five schools in the county. The sales table was convened by Blyth and Auburn branches raising approximately $65. Everyone en joyed a bountious pot luck meal. Board director Lois Elliott pre sented the highlights of the August board meeting. Priorities for all members include an improved Home and Country magazine, membership, and finance. Gladys Van Camp introduced guest speaker Mrs. Edythe Lock ridge, a retired teacher from Wing ham Secondary School, who spent some time teaching home econo mics at an Agriculture College in South Africa. Edythe’s commen tary and slides on “Life in Africa” were most interesting. She said that erosion and rocks and small farms are problems. The main crops are maize. Most home own ers had a vegetable garden all year round. The people wear blankets in place of a coat. Jane Muegge made the presen tation of 4H Scholarships to Mar garet Cronyn of Blyth 4H club. She is attending the Ridgetown College this fall for animal science. Her mother was present and re ceived the certificate. In new business motions were made to continue next year with the Obituaries VERA HASTINGS Vera Hastings of Brussels pass ed away Monday, Sept. 24, 1990 at Wingham and District Hospital. She was in her 74th year. She married Dave Hastings Sr. who predeceased her. She was the beloved mother of Diane Huether and her husband Brian of Brussels and Dave Hastings and his wife Karen of Brussels. She was the grandmother of Sandy, Sheri, David, Darryl, Donald and Krista. She is survived by three sistes, Viola Bowler, Ethel Brewer, Mary Lowe and a brother Russel Fox. 4H project awards and continue with the 75 cents per member to the children’s bursary fund. The interest money from the investment is to go this year to “The Women’s Feed the World project”. Marian Dougal gave the invita tion to the 1991 Rally to be held in Seaforth October 7, 1991. Funeral services were held Wed nesday, Sept. 26 from the Brussels Chapel of the Betts Funeral Home. Interment was in Brussels Ceme tery. Serving as pallbearers were Darryl Hastings, Donald Hastings, David Hastings, Murray Lowe, Wayne Lowe and Ken Bowler. Flower bearers were Krista Hast ings, Sheri Huether and Sandy Huether. Morningstar Rebekah Lodge No. 315 held a memorial service at the funeral home on Sept. 25.
