Phone 887-6677 WI visits library Ten members of the Walton Women’s Institute enjoyed last Thursday when they toured the Seaforth Library. Trudy Broome welcomed every­ one and explained the way things are run in the library. They have a room downstairs for the youth and younger children. She was thanked for sharing her knowledge and presented with a flower arrange­ ment. It was planned to have dinner at the Blue Fountain in Clinton. Then it was on to the remainder of the County Council meeting in Goder­ ich, as this was the Citizenship and Legislation meeting. A short business meeting had been held at the library where the hostess served coffee and dessert. Margaret Mclnroy chaired the meeting, thanking Marion and Leona for planning the meeting. From the minutes several items were attended to. A report was given from the County Rally held in Belgrave on Monday. Attending were Berva Watson, Margaret Mclnroy, Mar­ jory Humphries and Leona Mc­ Donald. Luncheons are starting again this month, October 17. The next Institute meeting will be held Nov. 21. Residents host Thanksgiving guests Isabelle Shortreed was a Thanks­ giving supper guest on Saturday with Bill and Louise Smith and family of Amberley. On Sunday Isabelle had supper with Ken and Judy Shortreed and family. Dale Wanless was also a guest at the same home. Duff’s United Church was decor­ ated in the Thanksgiving Theme for the Communion Service Sunday. Several family members were home for the Thanksgiving week­ end. Marion Godkin and Margaret Craig attended the Cranbrook Insti­ tute meeting on Tuesday evening with other Institutes present to hear Mrs. McMillan from Brussels as guest speaker. Next Wednesday, Oct. 17 is the Institute noon luncheon, starting again from the summer break. Watch for the posters telling of the menu planned by the convenors for this month. I ■ V VV Grey buys new tanker The regular meeting of Grey Township Council was held on October 1 and Council accepted the quotation of Weber Fabricating Ltd. from St. Jacobs for a 1500 gallon aluminum tank for the fire department’s tanker truck. ' The Weber quotation, amount­ ing to $32,962 was the lowest of two received. The tank will be placed on a recently purchased 1986 truck and will bring the total cost of the unit to $58,342. In other business, Council ap­ proved for payment general ac­ counts totalling $70,313.07 and road accounts totalling $68,685.17. The next regular meeting of Council is scheduled for October 22 at 7 p.m. London hosts WI convention The 76th Annual Convention of London Area Women’s Institute will be held on October 11 at South Huron Recreational Centre, Exe­ ter. The theme for the day will be “Make a World of Difference”, with Ted Blowes, a teacher and former Mayor of Stratford as the guest speaker following the 5:30 banquet. Women’s Institute members and guests will hear addresses by the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario President Peggy Knapp and reports of Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario, Western Fair Association, Public Relations, Tweedsmuir History and the Butler Project. Presentations will be given by Jane Muegge, Rural Organizations Specialist from Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and from a representative from the Adelaide Hoodless Homestead Museum. Grace Campbell, Program Co­ ordinator for London Area will also bring a message to delegates. Winners of Maryn Pardy Scholarship, F.W.I.C.
