THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1990. executive Women are well represented in the first executive of the Blythand District Optimist Club, one of the new brand of clubs with both male and female members. Tuition fees up for outside students The Huron County Board of Education trustees voted to in crease the tuition fees of students for out of County students from $100 a year to $300 per year, effective 1991-92. The Executive Committee re ported to the Trustees that the present fee had been set in 1974 and that a number of contiguous boards have been charging fees of $700 to $800 annually. It was also mentioned that non-resident fees are difficult sometimes to collect. Vice Chair Bea Dawson, who serves on the Executive Committee voted against the increase, saying she felt it was too much too quickly. “I would rather have seen a gradual increase instead of $200,” Ms. Dawson said. She noted that for a family who have two children attending school this will mean a jump from $200 this year to $600 next year. ‘‘I felt that was a little too much,” she added. Mrs. Dawson also said that she didn’t like to see the same increase at the elementary level as at the secondary level. Students affected by this are primarily those living on borders who for one reason or another want to attend school in Huron, but do not actually have the right.***** It was recommended to the board by the Management Committee that the board extend its commit ment to the long-term renovation project at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. This would be done by third year special funding in the amount of $125,000, which is a similar amount to what was provided in the fiscal years 1989 and 1990. The trustees accepted the recom mendation.***** Board trustees were informed that the friends and fellow students of the late Jeanne Saldivar, a former student of Seaforth District High School, who died in August in a car accident, have contributed $2,000 to establish a trust fund. The proposed Jeanne Saldivar Memorial Award would be given to selected graduate students at Sea forth each year, who are seeking post-secondary training in nursing. They felt that this award would provide suitable recognition for Ms. Saldivar’s contributions to Seaforth District High School and commemorate her interest in nurs ing as well. The Board voted in favour of the recommendation to establish a trust fund and invest the funds in the usual manner. Funds have been released by the Ministry of Community and Social Services to the Clinton Childcare Committee to permit the construc tion for the daycare facility at Central Huron Secondary School. It was noted that HCBE would be reaffirming position against the implementation of Junior Kinder garten to the new provincial How to get your financial life in shape. •protection for mortgage, business, family income, disability or estate; •retirement planning, RRSP's, RRIF’s, and annuities: •employee benefits and pension plans. •Investment, GIC’s, Mutual Funds and Registered Education Savings Plan •Term Deposits Call me: Tony G.
