Reg and Irene Schultz celebrate 55 years of marriage
Remarkable marriage
Irene and Reg Schultz marked their 55th wedding anniversary
with an open house in Westfield Saturday. The couple
continues to reside on their Westfield area farm.
Man gets suspended sentence
A Brussels man received a
12-month suspended sentence and
was ordered to do 75 hours of
community service after pleading
guilty in Wingham Provincial Court
to theft.
Nandor Szipocs had pleaded
guilty in the same court on July 25
of breaking into an Elma township
home and stealing guns and other
items. Stolen were several guns, a
black and white TV and a VCR plus
$500 in silver change. The accused
was arrested on April 15 and police
recovered some of the items.
seeing the report, the judge sus
pended the passing of sentence but
ordered Mr. Szipocs to do the
community service work.
It was a lovely day on September
28, 1935, when Reg and Irene
Schultz exchanged marriage vows
at Blyth Presbyterian manse. This
past Saturday family and friends
gathered at Westfield Hall to
honour the couple on the occasion
of their 55th anniversary.
The Schultzes who still reside at
the farm they’ve lived on for 52
years on RR 3, Blyth were united in
marriage by Rev. T. W. Mills and
left the ceremony in their Model A
Ford. Mr. Schultz says that while
he doesn’t remember a lot about
the day, he does remember runn
ing over the gander that came to
answer the sound of their car horn
honking to announce the marriage
to the neighbours. Apparently the
Runaway trailer
causes accident
A single vehicle accident involv
ing a Goderich-area man occurred
in Grey Township on Wednesday,
September 26.
Wingham OPP stated that 57-
year-old Donald Sowerby of RR 4,
Goderich was the lone occupant of
a 1989 Ford pick-up, which was
travelling north on County Road 12.
Mr. Sowerby slowed to make a
westerly turn on County Road 25
when the brakes on the horse
trailer he was towing failed. The
vehicle then skidded through the
intersection and struck the north
ditch, police said.
The vehicle sustained moderate
damage and Mr. Sowerby escaped
injury.
bird heard the sound and came
running, right into the path of the
bridal couple as they drove down
the lane.
Remarking on their many years
of marriage and its success, Mrs.
Schultz answered simply, "They
have been good years, but we don’t
have any secret for its success.”
While the couple now enjoy good
health, Mrs. Schultz over the years
has had several bouts of illness that
involved surgery. “Maybe that’s
what has kept us together,” she
said. “Working hard and sick
ness.”
The Shultzes have two sons,
Donald and Cliff, who both live at
home.
