CLASSIFIED ADS WORK Don Carter was named first president of the Blyth and District Optimist Club when the formation meeting for the club was held Wednesday night at the Blyth Christian Reformed Church. Present at the meeting were representatives of the Brussels Optimist Club, the sponsoring club Village employees concerned with benefit coverage Concern over what benefits are covered under village employees benefit package was expressed by village employees to Blyth Village council Tuesday night, Sept. 25. The subject was brought up by Merv Ritchie, the former village Public Works foreman who has been on permanent disability. He told council that when he was placed on permanent disability his drug plan was terminated. In all his years of working for the village he had never had any information on what was and was not covered by the village benefit package. He said he had no indication that his drug plan would be cut off until village Clerk-Trea surer Helen Grubb told him. “This is when you need it when you’re down and out,” he said. “I’m not sure if there’s a shortcoming whether it’s on your part or our part or whatever,” Reeve Albert Wasson said. Mr. Ritchie said even if nothing could be done for himself, some thing should be done for other village employees. “Any one of them could take a heart attack tomorrow,” he said. Also present for the meeting were John Rinn, current Public Works Foreman and Dave Cook, Manager of the Blyth and District Community Centre, both of whom are covered under the same benefit plan. Councillor Dave Lee said council should check into the options available under its package. No one probably ever thought when coun cil purchased a drug plan and a disability pension plan that the drug plan would be discontinued if an employee used the disability plan. Mr. Ritchie also informed council that he was being referred to as “retired” when he was not retired at all but only on disability which, he said, is totally different than being retired. Council promised to discuss the issue in closed session and get back to Mr. Ritchie and other staff. for the new Blyth group and Steve McDonald of New Dundee, Gover nor for Midwestern Ontario and George Langlois of Brussels, Lt.
