Bulls finish exhibition 5-0 Blyth Inn slo-pitch champs The Blyth Inn defeated B-Line Boomers 8-2 in the third and deciding game Friday night to become Blyth Industrial League Slo-pitch Champions. The Blyth Inn won the first game in the final series. Leading 7-4 the Inn scored five times in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach and win 12-4. The B-Line Boomers came out swinging in the second game, scoring early and often and troun­ ced the Inn 17-3. The stage was set for the third and final game Friday at the Radford Memorial Diamond. The Blyth Inn offense was sparked by long homeruns by Ken Stewart, Wayne McDougall and the Inn defence came up big holding the Boomers to two runs to win the game 8-2. The Boomers defeated Blyth Inn in last year’s final two games to one. The Bulls scored first on a goal from newly-acquired Jason Baiers from Shawn Chipchase and Greg McNevan at 14:42. Mount Forest tied the score at 11:14 with a power play goal. Brussels got a power play goal of their own at 6:13 as Marty Rut­ ledge scored with assists from Joe Walker and Jason Baiers. However Belgrave Mites swamp Brussels Belgrave Mite boys visited Brus­ sels Sept. 9 and came away with a 22-2 win over their hosts. Ryan Cook, Justin Campbell and Jason Howatt scored for the visi­ tors in the first but Brussels came right back with its only two runs in the bottom of the inning. Belgrave blew the game open with eight runs in the second. Justin Campbell, Jason Howatt, Jeremy Campbell, Ryan Fear, Craig Marks, Justin Howatt, Jamie McCallum, and Tom Pfeiffer scor­ ed the runs. In the third Belgrave scored six more runs. Ryan Cook, Justin Campbell, Jeremy Campbell, Jus­ tin Howatt, Jamie McCallum and Tom Pfeiffer crossed the plate. In the fourth, Belgrave scored five more, highlighted by Jamie McCallum’s home run. Also scor­ ing were Ryan Cook, Jason Howatt, Jeremy Campbell and Tom Pfief- fer. Jamie McCallum and Jeremy Campbell shared the pitching with Jeremy allowing no runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Mount Forest tied the game with another power play goal at 3:58 to end the first period knotted at one. Brussels took the lead on their second power play goal of the game as Brett Lang scored from Jamie Gibbings at 11:26 of the second frame. Mount Forest bounced back at 10:49. The Bulls scored their third power play goal as Jeff Gemell scored from Corey McKee and Brett Long at 8:06. However Mount Forest refused to lie down as they also scored their third power play goal of the game. The Bulls took the lead for the final time with 2:55 remaining the second as Brett Long scored an unassisted goal. The third period remained score­ less until 19 seconds remained as Marty Rutledge scored in the open net to give the Bulls a 6-4 advantage. Sunday, Mount Forest and Brus­ sels hooked up in a rematch at Listowel arena. Brussels jumped out to a 3-0 lead and looked like the rout was on as Brett Long scored from Corey McKee and Craig King at 19:17. Then Jeff McKee scored a short-handed goal from Marty Rut­ ledge and Jason Baiers. The Bulls finished the first period scoring on a power play goal as Paul Brophy scoring from Jeff Jewitt and Brett Martin. Mount Forest scored two quick goals in the second but the Bulls also scored two. Marty Rutledge scored at 12:30 from Jason Baiers. Their second power play goal came off the stick of Shawn Chipchase from King and Rutledge. Mount Forest came out flying in the third and second one power play goal and two short handed goals to tie the score at 5-5. However Brussels got the 6-5 win on a goal from Jeff Jewitt from Jason Baiers and Brett Martin. Bulls have just practises this week as they prepare for their travelling road show as they open their season in Orangeville, Fergus and Acton, before their home opener Sunday, Oct. 14 against Mount Forest at 2 p.m. Bulls released Jeff Gemell back to Seaforth Jr. D and Jeff Coulter who signed with Wellelsey Jr. D.
