About 115 people gathered for camping for fellowship and for spiritual renewal. Special thanks was given to all members of the committee who organized the re treat and to Delton and Johanna Holst from New Hamburg who donated their time and expertise in the kitchen. Ray Erb, pastor at Crosshill Mennonite Church, and his wife Eleanor led some learning sessions based on the theme, “The Family of God”. The Blyth Christian Puppeteers put on several performances during the weekend. These were enjoyed by children and adults alike. On Sunday morning the group was ministered through a variety of musical numbers by several mem bers of the congregation. Elwin Garland then led a devo tional service followed by commun ion. The activities ended with a Sunday School picnic Sunday after noon. The monthly Men’s Break fast will be held at the church, Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 a.m. It will take the form of a father-teenager breakfast with guest speaker Bruce Whitmore discussing substance abuse. (Hosea 11, 1-11) and the sermon title was “God’s Parental Love”. The scripture reading reveals God’s views on the people of Egypt, telling how he yearned over them just as a parent yearns over a wayward son or daughter. Even though God’s people drifted away from Him, even though they sacri ficed to the Baals and burned incense to the idols - still God continued to love and guide them. He gave them manner when they were hungry and he restored their kingdom. He was patient and diligent because of his own natural loving nature. Rev. Ramirez compared this love to a parent’s love when teaching our young to walk. We are there, holding on to them, ready to pick them up when they fall. When we become bruised emotionally and mentally, when we have problems in our life, when we have lost a loved one. Rev. Ramirez said we shouldn’t blame God or ask “why?” All God wants is for us to listen to Him, to love Him and to trust Him, remembering that He loved us first and wants only for us to share with Him our eternal home in His Kingdom. 2 X.X.
