Melanie Knox (left) won an A.H. Carter Award for grade 10 Science. Cindy Campschroer won a Kuenzig Food Market Award for basic food services and a Central Huron Scholars award. ‘Peace’ theme of UCW meeting The September meeting of Londesboro U.C.W. was held at the church on Monday evening, Sep­ tember 17 at 8 p.m. The worship service was conducted by Florence Cartwright and June Fothergill. The hymn, “Abide With Me” was sung. Scripture II Corinthians 5. 17-21 was read by June followed by prayer. Florence Cartwright had the theme on “Peace”. “O God of Love” was sung. June Fothergill read two pieces “To a Friend” and “Where Shall I Work”. Collection and Birthday Pennies were taken up. The Fall Rally is on September 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Brucefield. Fall Thankoffering in Blyth is Sunday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. The executive meeting report was given by Kittie McGregor. Minutes of the June meeting were read and approved. Corres­ pondence was read including thank you’s from Marion and Jack Snell, Dave and Caran Snihur, Mary Longman, nieces and nephews of Mary Robinson, the family of the late Pearl Hamilton, Shirley and Murray, Helen and Milton, Lenora and Everett and their families. Some of the ladies worked on a quilt. Lunch was served by Marion Snell, Isabel Scanlon and Ruth Shaddick. How to be a Local Hero Smile. The sermon topic was “Learning on The Way’’. Senior Youth Group will meet Thursday night September 27 from 7-9 p.m. at the manse. Huron Perth Presbytery will meet on Tuesday, September 25 at Duff’s United Church, Walton. The Congregational Life and Work Committee will meet on Monday, September 24 at 8:30 p.m. at the manse. Estella Adams opened the meet­ ing and welcomed everyone and thanked Laura for having the meeting. She read a poem about “Worries”. Minutes of the August meeting and the treasurer’s report were read. Roll call was answered by all 11 members. Collection and draw money was taken up. A draw donated by June Fothergill was won by Ora Bruce. Laura Lyon read a piece on “The Great Hereafter” and also another reading. Estella read a piece on “The Tone of Voice” and Bankrupt Cards were played. Lunch was served by Laura Lyon, Estella Adams and Ora Bruce. People Mel and Barb Knox and Christo­ pher and Beth Knox were guests at the wedding of Beth’s grandson, David Swan and Sharon Beer in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London on Satur­ day, September 22.
