Phone 526-7589 7 guests attend WI meeting The Auburn Women’s Institute meeting was held at the Commun­ ity Hall on Thursday, September 20. It was Fun Day led by Betty Archambault. The president Evelyn Merrill welcomed all and read a poem entitled “A Smile”. O Canada, the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect was sung with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. There were 12 members and seven visitors present. Roll call was bring a guest and tell her name. The minutes were read by secretary Kay Lapp and she also read the correspon­ dence. The treasurer’s report was given by Erma Cartwright in the absence of Tina Empey. Correspondence was dealt with, Huron County Rally at Belgrave - 4H members invitations to three Women’s Insti­ tutes, and London Convention, 4H Club, etc. Thank you notes were read. Jean Plaetzer gave the card report. Evelyn Merrill also read a poem “Letter Six - Meaning Friend”. Betty Archambault took over and members played euchre and scrab­ ble. Prizes were given out for these. Grace was sung and a delicious lunch was served by the executive. Prizes went to Kay Lapp for a marked saucer and to Hazel McCreath for having the most buttons on her clothes. A social time was enjoyed. Rev. Paul Ross conducted the morning service at Knox United and Mrs. Gordon Gross was organ­ ist. He gave the Call to Worship. The hymn “Thou Whose Almighty Word” was sung. There was a/ special time for children. Rev. Ross gave the prayers of confession and pardon and assurance followed by chorus response: “New mercies each returning day”. The hymn “When morning gilds the sky” was sung. Rev. Ross read the scripture from Isaiah and Philippians and the hymn “God moves in a mysterious way” was sung. Rev. Ross’s sermon was entitled “Learning on the way”. The prayer chorus was sung. Rev. Ross gave the prayers of Thanksgiving and Concern and the Lord’s Prayer was said in unison. The offering was received by Larry Plaetzer and Brian Gross and, for the Sunday School brought forward by Rachael Arthur, and dedicated. The hymn “Lord as we rise to leave” was sung. Rev. Ross pronounced the Benediction and the response “Now Thank we all our God” ended the service. The Sacrament of Holy Commun­ ion will be celebrated on Thanks­ giving Sunday, October 7. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. It was followed with the voting for the executive officers. The president is Susan Dobie; vice president, Melissa Hanna; secre­ tary, Pauline Huizinga; and press reporter, Shelley Dobie. The members went to Ball’s Cemetery and there they looked at different signs on grave stones and completed their assignments. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McIntyre of Sudbury visited their uncle and aunt Tom and Mildred Lawlor on Sunday.
