Dean Lawrie
returns
to Sailors
Blyth’s Dean Lawrie has been
chosen as one of two over-age
players for the Goderich Sailors
Midwestern Junior “C” team.
Under regulations adopted by
the Ontario Hockey Association
this year each team in the league
will be able to keep over-age
players who played on the team last
season. Dean was the team’s
leading scorer and captain last
year. Also in the Sailors training
camp is Darryl Dumin, the club’s
second leading scorer last season
who could be the team’s other
over-age player.
Three other Blyth-area players
are returning to the team this year.
Forwards Larry Hunking and Dan
McDougall and goaltender Mike
Henry played prominent parts with
the Sailors successful season last
year when they finished third to
Hanover Barons and Brussels Bulls
and lost in the seventh game of the
league semi-final to Brussels.
Brussels Bulls undefeated in exhibition play
Friday night the Brussels Bulls
beat the Goderich Sailors 9-4 in a
very physical match as the Bulls
received 100 minutes in penalties
and Goderich received 83 minutes.
The Bulls came roaring out
scoring three goals in 1:26. Brett
Martin scored at 16:23 with assists
going to Marty Rutledge. Then
Steve Fritz scored from Rutledge
and Strome at 16:02. Next Rutledge
scored from Strome at 15:49 to
complete a good shift.
Goderich got one goal back at
9:49, a power play marker. Shaw
Chipchase scored a short-handed
goal at 5:01 with assists going to
Jeff McKee. The Bulls finished the
scoring in the first period with a
power play goal. Brian Zaber
scored from Martin and Brophy to
give the Bulls a 5-1 lead after 20
minutes.
Goderich got two goals back at
19:00 and 10:41, their second
power play goal of the game.
However, the Bulls scored at 7:16
as Marty Rutledge scored from
Corey McKee with :07 seconds left
in the second period. Brian Zabel
scored his second goal of the game
from Paul Brophy and Kurt Wall.
After two periods the Bulls lead
7-3.
The bulls added to their lead in
the third as Paul Brophy scored
from Brett Martin and Brian Zabel
at 15:40. Goderich scored their
fourth goal at 8:10.
Brussels finished the scoring at
4:14 as Jamie Gibbing scored from
Jeff Gemell and Jeff Jewitt.
The Bulls’ coaching staff was
very pleased to see seven different
scorers in the game, as several
lines are being developed to get a
scoring balance.
The Bulls have signed rookies
Shawn Chipchase from Clinton,
Brian Zabel from Clifford and Jeff
Jewitt of Clinton. Also signing was
second year veteran Corey McKee.
Sunday night the Bulls travelled
to Goderich for a re-match. The
Bulls had four veterans sitting this
game out including Marty Rut
ledge, Ron Strome, Brett Martin
and Joe Walker. Once again the
Bulls toppled the Sailors 9-4 with
nine different scorers.

really special who is always there to
help everyone, staff, students or
visitors.
So we did just that; we went to
the office to talk to Mrs. Isabell
Prior. We thought that Mrs. Prior
doesn’t get enough commendation
or thanks for all she does for our
school. We went behind the scenes
to find out more about her.
Isabell Prior has been the ener
getic secretary at B.P.S. for 14
years. She took time off five years
ago to have a sweet little girl
named Laurie, who has this year
begun kindergarten.
Isabell’s husband, Jim, is the
Grade 6/7 teacher. We asked Mrs.
Prior what it was like to work with
your spouse and in fact to have
your whole family at work most
days. She responded that it works
well for them and that it is good not
to have babysitter fees at least on
kindergarten days.
Before Isabell came to Brussels
P.S. she worked in a lawyer’s office
for a time. Then she worked in the
bank for a year.
Isabell is too busy with her
secretarial job at the school to have
many hobbies. Of course, she is a
homemaker and a mother, two
more full-time occupations. Family
leisure time activities include
camping. Isabell takes her work
seriously, but enjoys every minute
of it.
So drop in at the office and say
“hello” to our secretary. She’ll
help you with all your needs. She is
the “heart” of our school.
