Ministry delay sidelines

approval for the two sites of
Huronview (at the present Clinton
site and at the south edge of
Brussels) especially with an elec
tion campaign on. If they had seen
an announcement that the govern
ment funding was in place the
county would have called tenders
for work to begin this fall, he said.
He said he knows the Huron project
is a very high priority in the
Ministry’s planning for southern
Ontario and high for the province
as a whole but the county has to
wait for official approval.
* ' They want you committed up to
here before they’re committed,”
he said of Ministry officials. He
outlined the various stages of
approval the plans must go through
before official go-ahead is given.
Councillor Greg Wilson urged
council not to move too quickly on
building the street extension. “I
think we should be very cautious
until we get final approval (for
Huronview plans).” Council would
look pretty silly if it built the street
at great cost to the taxpayers and
the Huronview project was turned
down, he said.
Mr. Bellchamber said the county
was looking at the possibility of
using county road department
equipment for some of the on-site
work on the Huronview project and
it is possible the village might be
able to make use of the same
equipment to build the street. He
said the county hoped to be able to
phase work at the two Huronview
sites so that local contractors would
be able to bid on the project.
He praised Council for its co-op
eration on the Huronview project.
When council turned to a discus
sion about a possible boundary
adjustment to include the site
within Brussels Mr. Bellchamber
suggested perhaps council should
try to set up a meeting with Morris
township to discuss the matter.
