feasible, Blyth hears
Monitoring the level of sound at
dances at Blyth and District Com
munity Centre is not feasible, Blyth
village councillors were told at their
August 28 meeting.
Clerk-treasurer Helen Giubb
said that in her conversations with
the Ministry of Environment
(MOE) officials they have advised
that getting equipment to monitor
the level of sound “could get into a
tremendous amount of money’’ and
that training to operate the equip
ment is necessary. “You have to
know what you’re doing’’, she said.
The advice was to “keep it simple”
Mrs. Grubb said. Council had
contacted the MOE after com
plaints from neighbours after
dances held on the arena floor.

yesterday.
Hank said it isn’t much wonder
Mulroney’s always over at
George’s place. George may be the
only one who likes him any more,
including some of his own cabinet.
Julia said even George may not
like him much anymore after Brian
the area he was told the noise
didn’t seem to be as bad at the
most recent ball tournament dance.
“There is something to be said for
asking people’s co-operation.”
Councillor Dave Lee said that in
some arenas some musical groups
have been banned if there are
consistent complaints about them
playing music too loud.
Reeve Wasson said council
would “ride it out a little longer
and see how it shakes down. If it
doesn’t improve we may have to go
at it again.”
Councillor Steven Sparling who
had been absent at the prior council
meeting when the issue was first
raised, said he thought the issue
had been very well handled by his
fellow councillors with all the
alternatives looked at and a little
common sense used in the end.

apparently hooked the President in
the ear while casting a line. Billie
said that’s where he’d like to tell
both of them to stick it.
Tim said Mulroney must really
be slipping. The one thing he used
to be able to do better than
anybody was throw a line that
hooked voters.

Quebec stays or not. Our mutual
misunderstanding will grow and
Quebec will pull out.
Somehow we’ve got to find the
point where we can be an “us”,
where we can each have our own
identity as black or white or Indian
or Chinese or Newfoundlander or
Quebecer, without turning every
body else into a “they”, something
to be feared or mistrusted. We
seem to have lost a lot of ground in
building understanding in the last
few weeks.
