The gang’s all here The five candidates in Thursday’s election took part in an all-candidates meeting sponsored by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation in Clinton Thursday. Taking part are (left to right) Paul Klopp, NDP; Tom Clark, Family Coalition Party; Jim Fitzgerald, Liberals; Allan Dettweiler, Libertarian Party and Ken Campbell, Progressive Conservatives. Candidates talk about the issues What do you feel is the single most important issue of this campaign? KEN CAMPBELL [P.C.] It is difficult to narrow issues down to one because there are those who would interpret that as their con cerns not being important. There are many important issues facing Huron County but I would have to say that on a short term basis the direction that local property taxes are taking is one that causes me the most concern. In the last few years the provincial government has seen fit to create mandatory programs that must be implemented at the local level and these local govern ments have no where to turn to, other than the local taxpayer, for the revenue to pay for these programs. On a long term basis I believe that waste management is one of the more important issues in Huron County. I don’t think most people know the magnitude of the garbage crisis that is looming over us. Our landfill sites are filling at an alarming rate, and while it is true the County is in the process of completing a Waste Management Master Plan, the search for alterna tive methods of disposal and new sites is so complicated that we may run out of approved sites and be TOLEARN-TOSERVE- TO ADVANCE Come join the AIR CADETS at the Wingham Armouries 6:45-9:30p.m. Wednesdays Be a part of the#1 organiza tion for young men and women from the ages of 12 - 19. We need to re-evaluate our envir onmental process and to take positive steps to reduce the amount of garbage going into our sites. We also need to create positive markets for recycled material. Garbage is everyone’s responsibility! TOM CLARK [F.C.P.] I feel the most important single issue in this campaign is the moral decline in our province. I, as an F.C.P. candidate, would immediately pre sent a bill in the house to stop the killing of our unborn citizens. I would move immediately to restrict the flood of pornographic maga zines, videos, TV programs and movies which are a reproach to all God-fearing and morally upright people. On the euthanasia debate, I promise you I would fight the two euthanasia bills, Bill 131 Power of Attorney Amendment Act 1990, which received second reading on April 26. 1990 and Bill 132 The I I I l I I I THE CITIZEN Box 152, Box 429, Brussels, Ont. If these bills are allowed to become law, they will facilitate the killing of the elderly in this province - the next step down once the respect for the sanctity of life is done away with. I believe we must get homosexuals back in the closet and would reintroduce Bill 7, the homosexual rights legislation, to have it defeat ed.
